That may be the same problem, but I am not really sure.

Since this is related to AOO update which is broken at the moment, maybe

Re: Reporting broken download link

2022-01-06 Thread Peter Kovacs
Have you confirmed that the application is what you want to use in
respect of the Gatekeeper?

See:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.1.11+Release+Notes

Section: For macOS users

BTW, since you are writing to the development list. You are not maybe
willing to help to translate Apache OpenOffice to your language?

We could use translators. For example we do not have Release Notes in
Chinese.

All the best

Hi Peter,
thanks for your kindly help.
I know where the problem is.  For I am in China. I used VPN and it is
OK to download.

But I found that the OpenOffice 4.1.11 can not work well on MacOS, it
will exit after a while when I open it.

Best Regards.

Re: Reporting broken download link

2021-03-07 Thread Pedro Lino
The download link redirects to Sourceforge a reliable download source.

You can also use the direct download from the Apache server
http://archive.apache.org/dist/openoffice/4.1.9/binaries/

but you need to manually select the correct file e.g. for en_US using the
Windows OS it would be
http://archive.apache.org/dist/openoffice/4.1.9/binaries/en-US/Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.9_Win_x86_install_en-US.exe

I've downloaded a second ago and haven't seen a problem. So, in general
it's working.

When you have problems that could be caused by a specific mirror server
then just change them. On the SourceForge webpage there is a grey
"Problems Downloading?" button. Just click on it and choose a different
mirror from the popup dialog.

I don't have a Mac, but my last information is that Gatekeeper tells that it is

so, it could be the Gatekeeper problem and the hint in the release notes

This is due to the Gatekeeper application that Apple is supplying with your
computer.

You are in wrong place here.
This is the Apple Gatekeeper problem. see Q05/A05 in
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74=89283#p420635
for details of how to get around this.
The same tutorial also has many other useful suggestions for OpenOffice on an
Apple Mac.

Next time, thanks to use first our forum.

Re: Reporting broken download link

2020-03-24 Thread Marcus
I've downloaded a second ago and haven't seen a problem. So, in general
it's working.

When you have problems with specific mirror servers then just change
them. On the SourceForge webpage there is a grey "Problems Downloading?"
button. Just click on it and choose a different mirror from the popup
dialog.

Re: Reporting broken download link

2020-01-25 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi

It is most likely a temporary problem with the local site Sourceforge is
redirecting you to.
You can try downloading later or from a different mirror.

You can always download directly from the Apache website
e.g. for English US for the Windows OS you should get
http://archive.apache.org/dist/openoffice/4.1.7/binaries/en-US/Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.7_Win_x86_install_en-US.exe

If you still have problems, it would be best to ask on the users mailing
list or on the forum at https://forum.openoffice.org/en/. This is a list
for developers.

Best regards,
Pedro

Be sure you download from http://www.openoffice.org/download Try a different
browser. Works OK for me with Firefox or Opera.

If you have any doubts about the integrity of the download, use the methods in
the "how to verify the download" link below the version selector panel to
verify.

When you have problems with specific mirror servers then just change
them. On the SourceForge webpage there is a grey "Problems Downloading?"
button. Just click on it and choose a different mirror from the popup

Re: Reporting broken download link

2018-02-25 Thread Andrea Pescetti
CCing Dave since it is clear that SourceForge is having some issues with
the OpenOffice downloads.

I didn't manage to reproduce the problem (I made some attempts with
different files and downloads always started correctly for me), but we
are seeing a regular stream of reports from users who cannot download
OpenOffice. Now at more than a dozen over the weekend. The picture at
https://lists.apache.org/list.html?dev@openoffice.apache.org is rather
clear.

Perhaps some DNS issues or a broken mirror?

Regards,
  Andrea.

Would you mind trying to download from the following sourceforge mirror?
https://netix.dl.sourceforge.net/project/openofficeorg.mirror/4.1.5/binaries/en-US/Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.5_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz

I didn't pick it on purpose, it was the first download link I got from
the download page. I tried 3 times from it and the connection was always
interrupted midway (between 10 MB and 118MB).
Using another mirror (netcologne) was okay.

I've tested the link above a second ago and had no problem (12 sec. with
~10 MBit/s). So, the root cause must be betweeen the mirror server and
and your PC. Great that you have now an installation file.

Works for me.

$ curl -s
https://netix.dl.sourceforge.net/project/openofficeorg.mirror/4.1.5/binaries/en-US/Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.5_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz

*Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.5_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz

So what I get from that mirror passes the MD5 checksum verification. I
don't save the file to disk just because I don't need it; this of course
makes no difference. The download speed was quite slow though (about 10
minutes; usually it's much faster) so you might have hit some timeouts.

I've tested again and also today I haven't seen a problem when

So, there is no general problem but in the Internet connection between
your PC and the mirror server. It depence on your hardware, Inernet

the mirror server is down and a backup service isn't really working.
So, the reasons can be nearly endless.

RE: Reporting broken download link

2017-10-25 Thread David Szott
Marcus,

After I replied, I noticed IE came up with a dialog window to save the file.
But when I clicked on it to save the file, I got:

[cid:image003.jpg@01D34D91.531FDC70]

It tells me it couldn't download it.

As I mentioned, we have problems sometimes with IE 11, so I won't worry about
this because I can get it in Firefox. But I thought you'd like to know.

David

*

Marcus,

When I right-click on the link and select "save target as", the right-click
menu just disappears in my IE 11 (patched up to date). Happens also for KEYS
and ASC.

However, I tried Firefox, and right-click save as does work in Firefox, so I
was able to download it. (I thought I used to be able to just double-click on
these MD5 links, but maybe I'm remembering wrong.)

We've been finding more and more IE 11 has trouble with a number of sites, so I
won't worry about it. I can use Firefox for this.

Anyway, thank you for your help. (The MD5sum did check out against the install
file.)

it seems your Internet connection is different when handling such files.
Compared to ASC and KEYS I need to download the MD5 and SHA256 files instead of
seeing them in my browser.

So, can you right click the links and use "Save As" to download and save them
locally? Does it work?

Otherwise I would ask the system admin for help.

I'm pretty sure it would work when you are at home. So, sending the hash values
via mail to your work mailbox can help. Yes, a bit cumbersome ... ;-)

Re: Reporting broken download link

2017-10-21 Thread DaveB
In addition to the information given in the previous reply from Marcus,
you should be aware that the website openofficede you are
attempting to download from is not an official Apache owned domain. It
is registered to a person named Arne Koenig in Verden. The file [1]
being offered for download from that site is NOT an exact copy of the
official installation file [2].

[1] Unofficial Installation File
Filename: OpenOffice_4.1.4_Win_x86_install_de.exe
Size: 167 MB (175,205,456 bytes)
SHA256: 4653604ba8edce0627629518f083a5e129fbd2ddb026e935f3abd53235817d5f

[2] Official Installation File
Filename: Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.4_Win_x86_install_de.exe
Size: 166 MB (174,734,171 bytes)
SHA256: 48545078494370d5df9b55b97c310de16154be081a75a5e97f304af068ccd58e

The difference does not automatically indicate that there is an issue
with the unofficial file and clean scan results from 4 major
anti-malware programs suggest that it may be safe, but it would be
advisable to follow the advice from Marcus and only download from:
https://www.openoffice.org/download/

thanks for your mail. Please note that attachments are not allowed here
and therefore they are not visible.

First of all - as this is often the first step into a wrong direction -
make sure to download only from the official source:

https://www.openoffice.org/download/

We are taking care to compile and build the software on clean systems to
make sure that OpenOffice is not infected by a virus or other malware.
Therefore it is very likely that the virus alert is a false-positive

When a new software was released - like OpenOffice 4.1.4 is as it is 2
days old - the anti-virus software was maybe not yet updated to
recognize the new software signatures that it don't include any bad parts.

Now you have 2 options:

1. You can wait for one of the next updates of your anti-virus program.

2. Or you can verify yourself the integrity of the downloaded software
by the following steps:

A. Disable the anti-virus software before downloading OpenOffice.
Download only from here.

https://www.openoffice.org/download/

We are using Sourceforge.net as our software host.

B. For download, do not select open, select Save and place in a
memorable location (your Download folder, for example).

C. Use either the PGP or the MD5/SHA verification procedures for
verifying the Download. See here for procedures:

https://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums.html

D. In your anti-virus software, see if there is a setting where it will
only remove or quarantine files after confirmation by you. This will let
you over-rule it in the future, verifying the file yourself instead.

PS:
Please be careful and avoid mentioning your personal contact information
in the Internet. It is readable for everybody and can therefore also
abused by the bad guys.
