Gretchen, I couldn't find specific reports from Social Technologies
but there are some newsletters and blog postings that look promising
and interesting.
Elin, that must have been a great talk. I'll definitely look up
more from John Cacioppo.

I saw this neat filter recently at http://www.sixwineseight.com that
changes wine choices based on selected criteria and uses a graphic
image to provide instant feedback. It's a much simpler form than
you're probably looking for but I think it's a nice example of
graphic feedback that's fun and
I know there's a few people with a psych background of some sort and
many readers with a broad net around here so I thought I'd ask: Have
you heard of any research/researchers, articles, books, etc. dealing
with social media and social anxiety? General social psychology with

Good call Bryan. That's a topic you here of in the news every so
often but my brain hadn't pulled it out as a search term.

Hopefully next time smashbox will do a Top 10 Accepted Usability
Guidelines and the Arguments Against Them type article. It's a
much better read when you add in this type of feedback.

I like this thread because it made me realize I do not have an
articulated list of principles that I can point to. While I'm
working on that here's a couple of thoughts:
Give a crap and remember that nice people will have to use your
design to accomplish something--don't ruin their day and
Oops looks like Bryan already submitted the auto complete idea.
:) Darn my distracted typing.

Maybe you could combine several of these interests and work on a user
test with prototypes or wireframes you create. Being able to test
your solutions with your intended audience is something that is a big
part of all IXD work and is such a great learning experience. It
would also give you a
Silverlight 3 might be helpful for high-fidelity prototypes as it
supposed to have touch capability.

We haven't tried it yet, but I've heard our developers make some
oh cool comments.

What an interesting way to look at this experience. I'm particularly
thinking of onceability for web sites. You know the ones you fill out
a form for once so you can look at your second cousin's wedding
pictures. Or that iPhone app you downloaded and it was kind of neat
and you never touched it
That sounds so awesome!

Stu, I had a similar feeling after trying Flash Catalyst. I attempted
to build a prototype with it and quit pretty early in the process,
hanging my head in frustration. I couldn't seem to get it to do
anything. (Granted my ActionScript skills are limited at best.) For
the past couple of weeks
Hi Marcus,
We're working with WPF/Visual Studio 2008. The user can edit only
one thingy at a time a time and they are able to edit all cells of
the table.
Hi Chris,
In the instance of this table, I'm looking at how the data is
displayed which is tablular rather than how the code is formatted.
Does anyone have any good examples of alternatives to nested tables or
decent implementations of nested tables?
My problem table is made of rows of thingies and there are 3-4
property columns for the thingies. Now each thingy has multiple
widgets with 3 or 4 properties that can be added to the
I think some of the fun ways we're using interaction design to affect
behavior now is in our personal life and productivity.
The WiiFit example is great because it takes something we don't
necessary like to do and makes it into a game. I disagree that a dvd
will give you feedback and game play
This is a great resource! Thanks for sharing...(running to email to
coworkers now).

Welcome
I just read an article yesterday about the User Experience Iceberg
that looks useful in explaining the work it takes to go from point A
to the pretty, friendly interface. It's not a new concept but it was
new to me and the article links to slides you can download for your
own presentations. It's
