The problem appeared to be with the fact I had set the ReadyNAS as a

different part of the forum with a similar problem). The VM Super Hub
simply didn't like it. Changing it to a dynamic address enabled me to

see if the system was properly grounded. It was. He did re-do the
confections, I guess mainly because I was standing there watching him.
This tech said he really didnt think the surge came from the cable.

I used free AVG for a couple years, but then there was one particular
version upgrade that seemed to turn it into a resource hog. So I
dropped it and have been using the free version of Avast, which seems
to have a much lighter footprint.

How do folk rate this free basic service against options that have to be
paid for?
I guess this free product reduces most risks, especially for someone
like me who has email and attachements scanned by www.fastmail.fm
before ever I see them.

As Ron suggested your SBS may be starting before your NAS has completed
it's network setup. Try stopping then restarting SBS on the NAS.
You can get an "invalid" message for MySB credentials if your SBS
server cannot see MySB (i.e. no internet). It cannot validate what it
cannot see.
