Jim,
Quite well said. Following this list has shown me that Slim is one of the most
customer focused and responsive technology companies I have ever seen.
As for Plays for Sure, it seems that it will play for sure in any device that

Double check that the Protect Content toggle is not checked under your
preferences. I've accidentally ripped songs with that toggled on, and it
puts WMA copy proteciton on the file. I only discovered it when I moved the
music folder to a new PC and had Windows start refusing to play those files
Andrew,
A couple of questions come to mind:
1. Are the SB and the CD player hooked to the same receiver?
2. If so, what type of conneciton are you using (analog or digital/Optical
or Coax) for the CD Player?
3. What type of connection (analog or digital/Optical Co-ax)) are you using

Andrew,
Different vs Better is a tough one. Just because your daughter can tell the
difference between the two doesn't tell you which is producing the best
sound fidelity to the original lossless source.
I'm not being critical here. I'm just pointing out that sound preference is

Here is a link to a site that I found interesting. Although he favors WMA
lossless for his collection--which many people here would disagree with--he
does offer a good discussion on using EAC and why a lossless format is his
preference.. Disclaimer: I am NOT taking a side on FLAC vs WMA.
Jeff,
Those shots look pretty nice. Could you
expand a bit on this mod and it's features?

Since you were streaming radio at the same time, it was probably an issue
with the bandwidth of your internet connection or jitter rather than an
issue with Server or the SB.

Jason,
This is an excellent point if this case of SB1 vs SB2. Different does not
necessrily mean bad. But I went back and re-read the post and it seemed to
me that he was saying that they could tell a difference between FLAC
decoding (on the SB2) vs decode to PCM and stream to the SB2 already

Sean,
I'm about to buy my wireless set up for SB2 now. Probably FLAC, definitely
lossless, via Xandros (Debian based) Linux distro. Any other hardware to stay
away from, or more importantly that is really stable?

Given all of the discussion of skipping, wireless network performance, etc.
some of you, especially those actually developing the server SW, may find
this article that discusses delivering multimedia via wireless interesting.

Thomas,
I may be wrong on this, but if anything I would think that you would have
higher latency/jitter on the wireless side, not on the wired side. Since
the wired is running behind the wireless, I wonder if your sound card/driver
is somehow injecting latency? What type of card are you using?
Don't worry guys. I'm not talking wilderness camping here. I like peace

I don't agree with your premise here. Why on earth would Slim Devices want
to facilitate multiple brands of devices connecting to their free, open
source server? Exactly how is that a profitable model for a company that

Now that SB2 has 802.11G and a deeper buffer, I am going to make an assumption
that the wireless drop-out and range issues that existed are going to disappear
or at least be substantially reduced. So, I'm looking to design a wireless,
portable config for my SB2 and would like some input from

No intent to be provacative here. Just curious as to your thoughts on this.
What business advantage is there to completely opening up the firmware to

I know that this comment will not be supported by some, but here-in lies a
very important reason for NOT open sourcing the firmware, IMHO.
