Well, I own the domain name, but no-ip.com is doing the dynamic dns for
me and they're based in Las Vegas, so that's where that comes from.

It's an interesting psychological phenomenon that one feels that one
must provide more justification and reasoning NOT TO upgrade than TO
upgrade.

look for red Xs in the Event Log.
Maybe your virus scanner is killing MySQL. That appears to be a
prevalent problem with 6.5+
(So, you decided not to back off to 6.3.1?)

for EVERYTHING
(except maybe Windows). Rarely, it seems, are they critical, and often,
they turn out to bite you in the arse. (I'm thinking of Java and
Acrobat, here.)

The response to my query has been somewhat underwhelming. I guess I'll
assume that the issues I raised are still issues with 6.5+. I suppose
I'll keep chugging along with 6.3.1.

someone is going to be able to
browse my hard drives (Windows) unless I have ports 137, 138, 139
and/or 445 open. What can a nefarious person really do with port 3483?
It seems that I actually don't even need 9000 open to use SoftSqueeze.

white list feature could also be included to let your SBs at home
into the fold automatically.
Then, we really could open our music to the Internet, allowing us to
connect from work, vacation, etc., without having to worry about every
Tom, Dick and Harry mucking about.

, but unplug both the
SqueezeBox AND your router for ten minutes before attempting to connect
again. Again, I recommend uninstalling everything and backing off to 6.2
before attempting to install 6.3.1.
From my experience, the factory reset doesn't do squat.

Thanks Andy -- I don't quite get what you're suggesting. Scrolling up,

Maybe Slim Devices has contributed insufficiently to National Public

Have you tried a wired connection to the router?
Just to be clear, when you tried the factory reset, you plugged the
power cord into the SB while you were holding down the + button,
right?
(Get sick of useless, unhelpful posts in the other thread?)

Kyle,
Doesn't your router have ethernet ports? Just plug the SB into one.
Forget about listening to music right now, just take the SB and the
remote to the router, plug it in and see if you can get a connection.
