If I was to get one of these, some sort of display would be essential.
We don't all have smartphones or tablets in the house to control it. I
do, but it's not usually on wifi as it eats the battery. I see there's
an HDMI output.. presumably I could attach a small 6 screen, if I could
find one?
(or whatever it's called this week) interface?
I'd say it's clearly not acceptable. The web interface, at the very
least, should say I decided to overwrite all your menu settings for
these devices without asking you. If you want to restore them, please
click this link.

The new controller doesn't seem to have enough buttons.
How would I use it to type a search when there are no alphanumeric
buttons? It doesn't have a touch screen for that does it? No.. can't
do... else there'd be no buttons at all.

I had a terrible shock when I plugged my SB in. It sounded terrible.
Only by accident did I discover that this was because I'd plugged it
into the amp input designed for vinyl. I plugged it into 'video'
instead and it's great.

Personally I can't think of anything worse than being forced to listen
to other people's choice of music for even part of the day - and I have
worked in a lab. Make sure that people who don't want music on are
allowed to work in peace!

It's connected using homeplug, which should be effectively the same as
ethernet..because it is once out of the homeplug adapter. But I can
test with a cat-5 cable straight to the router.. I'll report back!

How about setting it up but allowing no music til lunchtime to be as
valid a choice as let's listen to jazz

Google for internet connection sharing and you'll find lots of pages
telling you how to set it up.

I don't know, but my advice is to buy some homeplug adapters (ethernet
over mains power cables), and then you won't have to worry about the
microwave oven any more.

I'd noticed that now playing often gives the wrong track. But I've got
too tired of chasing Slimserver bugs, so it stays wrong.. doesn't
impress visitors so much though!

Thank you! I'll give that a go, probably next week one day. How's that
for support? You wouldn't get that from a big company like Logit.. oh,
never mind.
Odd though, since it can find a DNS server when it connects me to
Squeezenetwork. Why's that different?

You do need hours of spare time for emusic, so you can listen to all the
artists you've never heard of. It isn't really compatible with having
children!

I'd use homeplug (ethernet over mains power) rather than woreless. It's
much easier to set up (plug it in and turn it on) and there's much less
to go wrong than with wireless.

* Ability to either add tags from the remote control, or add the

effecting the currently playing playlist. I guess that's a plugin

The other thing I'd like is to improve random play to allow me to play:
genre-A genre-B but not if also tagged genre-C
I'd second the suggestion of focus on stability over new features

To add some more detail - if, when they are out of sync, I unsync and
sync them, then they play the current FLAC track perfectly together, so
it isn't an issue with FLAC per se, but something to do with changing
tracks. I'll try to do some more experiments.

which player's behind.
Obviously I can work around it by not playing FLACs but I'd prefer to
just leave them playing entirely randomly.

I run a squeezebox 1 over 14MB homeplug (from Solwise) which works fine.
I don't think you need 85MB.. unless you're streaming FLAC to several
SBs, which perhaps you are. My wireless signal dropped completely
whenever the microwave was turned on.

I'll start watching Ebay...
I can only congratulate Slimdevices on what must be a popular product
as demand seems to exceed supply - unless it's just a uk distribution
problem.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give them a go.
Unfortunately I no longer have time to mess about trying to find out
why it doesn't work - either it works or I don't use it, and when I've
finished work for the day I don't want to spend any more time looking
at my PC!
