It intrigues me that Squeezeslave did play my 24/96 tracks but around a
whole tone lower. I'm guessing that SBS downscaled the 24/96 to 16/48,

Just FYI, latest Squeezeplay plays 24/96 on my Win 7 laptop. Great FLAC
tag checker/editor is Mp3tag; have used it for years with Squeezebox
with good results. Full support for any tags you want including those
mainly used with classical, e.g. COMPOSER, CONDUCTOR.

I does not really matter if it can't play 24/96 the server will
transcode to 24/48 in the background, providing that you don't have
some wierdo file types settings or custom transcoding rules that breaks
this ability.

As you say, foobar2000 is a great playback tool on a PC. Never having
