You can set the refresh rate to some huge amount (10 minutes should be
fine). It will then only update every song once or twice.

just today i discovered that certain artists were not showing up in my
database properly anymore. that is, they were showing up when i browsed
through the albums, but not if i went directly to artists.
examples:

i created a huge playlist from scratch within slimserver and not with
an external tool. (~42 Kbyte in size, ~380 tracks).
the problem is still there, which means it has definitely nothing to do
with the fact that i made my playlists with winamp.

The example you show in your first post would appear to be two
different artists on the same album. Could it be that all of the
artists that you are missing are from compilation albums? If so,
there is a part of the scan that merges compilation albums under the
single various artists label.

I rip my tunes via iTunes as Apple Lossless. It is lossless as compared
to a raw AIF file, but half the size (or 60%).
Once I've confirmed I like the tag info in iTunes, I let SS re-scan,
preferring NOT to run the iTunes side of SS.
If I want to put songs into the iPod I use an iTunes plugin

having problems, then it points to a hardware failure. What you've
described is consistent with a faulty SDRAM chip, but that's just a
