Re: [slim] Squeezecenter stops working
My problem is that QNAP have withdrawn support for LMS because of the security issues. If I reinstall, remove the files that FLIPFLIP suggested and don't forward the 9000 port, will it be secure?. Long term I will have to buy a RASPI or try and run the latest LMS in a DOCKER which is now available on the QNAP You should never forward port 9000 anyway. The vulnerability wasn't in LMS itself, but in some of flipflip's code to manage it. I think there have been patches/solutions around the forum. One file needed to be replaced. But I don't remember the details. Raspi sounds like a great idea. -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] How to fix music track that Transporter plays back twice as fast?
Well, I'll be darned. I'm not sure what happened with my previous tests of the sample rate, but after some more futzing with Audacity it appears that the Transporter can play the music just fine. I'm not sure if this was user error, but I did discover some curious inconsistencies with how Audacity performs on my Mac vs. my Linux box, especially with how files are exported, and it's possible that the software let me down. And while I'm a tiny bit annoyed that the Transporter couldn't handle these files as-is, as I wanted to preserve these files from the rounding errors inherent with resampling, and keep them immortalized as a perfect copy of the original digital source, I think this will probably be a perfectly practical solution, and I'm looking forward to doing an A/B test between the original LD source and the Redbook-upsampled versions to see if I can hear any differences. Thanks for all of your help with this. megarat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66421 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106680 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] How to fix music track that Transporter plays back twice as fast?
I only had speed problems on my Transporter when trying non-standard samplerates like 64kHz. These files play fine in foobar. I can only guess the upsampling leaves some PCM header that it misinterprets while i don't know the header ever reaches the player because LMS sends the music only. Since Squeezeboxes work correctly i get even more confused. Isn't the config people use to upsample in LMS specific for every player? Ever played with that and left some trace? [slim] RIP - Rick Parfitt
Sad to announce the passing of Rick Parfitt ex singer/rhythm guitarist for Status Quo. http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2016/12/24/status-quo-guitarist-rick-parfitt-dies-68/95824938/ He wrote and sang some of their biggest hits and favs such as Big Fat Mama, Rain, Whatever You Want, Again and Again, Living on an Island etc... A powerhouse rhythm guitarist, he was the engine that drove the Status Quo sound and he still had the skill well into his sixties. Christmas is a little sadder this year. I have plenty of mono flac's which play perfectly on my Transporter, so I don't think double speed and one channel is related. It wouldn't surprise me if the Mac optical input is the source of the issue. I doubt it understands 44056. Worst comes to worst you can record the LD analog output. Re: [slim] How to fix music track that Transporter plays back twice as fast?
Thanks for the details re: Transporter playback. This gives me some evidence that the sample rate is the issue, and I'll keep looking in it. More to come. Re: ripping LDs, yes, I just connect a TOSLINK cable from the optical out on the back of the LD player to the audio input on my Mac Mini. (Many modern Macs have a special 1/8" phono audio-in port that will function as a TOSLINK input if you use the proper adapter.) Once connected, the rip is pretty straightforward. megarat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66421 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106680 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'm curious, you don't hear much about LDs these days; how are you "ripping" them? LD digital output to USB audio interface? That's correct. I've re-opened an upsampled file and confirmed that it's indeed 44.1 kHz. By opening, changing sample rate to 44100, and saving, right? Should work. You might try a different converter such as foobar2000. [slim] How to fix music track that Transporter plays back twice as fast?
Greetings, I hoping that one of the experts here can help me with a long-standing issue. In a nutshell: I have some music files that play fine on a Squeezebox2 and a Squeezebox3, but when I play them on a Transporter, they play back twice as fast. And I mean that quite literally: the music sounds like The Chipmunks on speed, and you can even see the elapsed time indicator on the display ticking off two seconds at a time. Because they play fine on the SB2/SB3, I presume this isn't a server issue (unless there are Transporter-specific server settings that I'm unaware of), so I'm wondering if there is a property of the music file that might be causing this. Some additional details: I have a collection of laserdiscs, and one of the hallmarks of LDs is that they have the capacity for (essentially) CD-quality audio, and there are many music LDs that are noteworthy for having fantastic sound, with even a better dynamic range than an equivalent CD. I have a few of these LDs, and I am trying to rip their audio tracks into a format that I can play on my home audio systems. Analogue rips work just great, no problems there. The 2x playback problem, however, occurs with digital rips of the LD's digital stereo audio track. The LD's native digital audio is Redbook-esque, but not precisely so, being 16 bit and 44056 Hz. I capture the audio with Audacity via direct TOSLINK connection at exactly the same specifications (16 bit and 44056 Hz). The rips play back fine in Audacity, and after I export the tracks as flac files, they play just fine on everything I've tried, including the SB2 and SB3, and perhaps a dozen different types of media-playing software. On the Transporter (and only the Transporter (that I have been able to tell)), mysteriously, they play back at double speed. I've tried upsampling the music files to Redbook specs (44.1 kHz), in case the oddball sample rate was confusing it, but that didn't help. The problem isn't limited to flac files as well: I've converted a couple of these problematic flac files to aiff, and the problem persists (with the exact same symptoms: plays fine on everything but Transporter). In case it's not obvious, these digitally-ripped LD tracks are the only files that I've encountered this problem with. I have a pretty large music library, containing mostly flac, ogg vorbis and mp3 files, and I have never encountered this issue with the Transporter before, until I did these digital rips from LD. I think that summarizes it. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated, and if anyone wants to investigate, I can provide a track or two. megarat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66421 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106680 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Michael, thanks for replying. I uninstalled LMS so the log files will no longer exist. I will reinstall and wait for the problems to reoccur and then send you the full log file. My problem is that QNAP have withdrawn support for LMS because of the security issues. If I reinstall, remove the files that FLIPFLIP suggested and don't forward the 9000 port, will it be secure?. Long term I will have to buy a RASPI or try and run the latest LMS in a DOCKER which is now available on the QNAP Anyway Merry Christmas Drongo Drongo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19696 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106285 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I don't see anything particular in your log file (and please do us a favour and upload the raw server.log, not a pdf file). As other said: this version of LMS is ancient. You should try to update and try again. -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
