I found that an SB1 SB2 would sync, playing flac files, but would generally fall out of sync after a few tracks. This could perhaps have been addressed by transcoding to wave on the server for both but I was just letting things default so the SB1 stream was transcoded to wave on the server and

No, not via a slimserver setting. (This is by design as didn't want people to leave it on accidentally) I'm not sure how you are starting the server, but if you start the server with --perfmon as a command line option then it will enable it at startup. -- Triode

Did you have 6.5 installed at some point? This sounds like an issue there, where a couple plugins were interracting with the firmware upgrade. Theoretically, this isn't possible with 6.2.2 but just in case, if you have Trackstat or the Execute plugins installed, remove them temporarily.
