I am considering getting a qnap and has some quesitons:
1. Performance: How is the performance especially with a lot of
lossless music installed? I have a Buffalo Linkstation with Slim
installed and the response time is dismal both from the remote control
and web. Would the QNAP having tested

Generally there are no interruptions during the music.
The response is sometimes a bit sluggish. The interface hangs and
then, after about a second, it's starts to respond.

BBC stations play OK, it is only AAC+ that I have a problem with. I'll
run the MPlayer test into the wav file and replay on my WinXP box to
make sure.
I'll do the d_source check for mplayer.sh output and perhaps compare

that AAP on first line starts in col 1. Ensure that the 2nd line has
a tab (ascii 9) before and after the EN - some editors replace tabs

newest additions does take a few seconds (i think i timed it at about

I'm using 'nano' to edit the files, and I am not sure whether it does
something when wrapping the text - I would hope not. Is there any case
sensitivity as types.conf and the other files are lower aac and
strings.txt upper AAC?

Case shouldn't matter - I did my testing on a Linux 6.3/6.5 systems.
Don't know about nano but try moving the cursor across the line - if it
jumps then there are tabs. Inconclusive if it doesn't. Usually the

windows. The easiest way is to simply set a static IP in windows.

I don't think I've had a problem with SlimServer causing the FF memory
leak, but Gmail caused it just now for me - I killed the FF process
when it exceeded 200 MB of memory!
So I applied the fix.

I haven't needed to post before, but I think my squeezebox may be
allergic to Slimserver 6.3...
My setup:
- Mac G4 Cube (450MHz G4, 1.0 Gbyte of RAM, 120Gbyte of disk, 21Gbytes
free), MacOS 10.3.5,
- 3700 files in Apple Lossless encoding, no MP3s
- Slimserver serves files from iTunes
Dunno, it still leaks for me... :/ Maybe something else is causing it
to leak, too... it seems to be leaking slower than before.. but it

if uninstalled, it continus to effect earlier versions such as 6.2.1 or
6.2.2. Is there a way to remove absolutely all of 6.2.3, what files

Well it did work :) I finally played around with some of the server
setting too and disabled some stuff so it will load faster. But I don't
think its going to work for a library rescan because on my home computer
the drive comes up as L: and the D: drive is a fixed drive that needs to
