After I had posted it occurred to me to look at my Windows Shortcuts.
The shortcuts to my music directories had been written in the UNC form
- \\Music\maxtorot3\A-M. The path to Music and Playlists set in
SlimServer used local paths (i.e. D:\SB_Shortcuts and

Well I consider myself fairly technical after all it is my job. But
then last night after a glass or two of vino I decide to tidy up my
music library. Well I do it direct on the NAS device and find a whole
bunch of artists which should have been under Compilations. No

I have this probelm too.
It also extends to Japanese and Korean.
Windows XP, NFTS, UTF8 tags.
Very occasionally, it will recognise a song but it's very rare and I
have no idea why it works when it does.

I have an Xbox 360 extender running in my lounge and I just purchased a
squeezebox to go in the kitchen. When I connected the Squeezebox it
works fine, but the Xbox 360 then disconnects and can't find the host
PC again.
Anybody know where the conflict is / how to fix?

The only thing that occurs to me is that you may have an IP address
conflict (two devices with the same IP address). Are you getting IP
addresses from a DHCP server, or are you manually setting them for each
device?

Yes. Using UNC paths is almost always the correct choice. I have done
this since the times of my Audiotron, which could use Samba shares and
M3U playlists but had no notion of drive letters. So, I simply use UNC
paths in my playlists from that time.

I spoke with user support and told them that I had been running beta 6.5
before they released 6.3. I had downloaded and installed 6.3 without
uninstalling 6.5 and that appears to have started the problem. They
had me delete several files from Slimserver and then restart the

Now that I've figured out how to use it the issue of the default names
is trivial.
It's easy to change the default names by editing the plugin code (using any

Hmm the thing about a Squeezebox is it is virtually audiophile quality
if you are using a lossless format. In addition it is not power hungry.
This is a major differentiator in the market of low cost multi-room
audio

Not really possible I don't think - you'll never be able to get the
sound and video in sync properly because of buffering in the audio
stream. If you're streaming the video too (not clear from your post)
then there's more buffering and it's even harder to sync.

This request comes up every now then - the main theoretical drawback
is the sync of video and Audio. Mplayer has the ability to play DVDs
and adjust video/audio timing so that one is ahead of the other. I'm
not sure if VLC can do the same but it worth checking.

Input selection is a pain - the discreet input selector codes basically
don't work, so I use the non-discreet input select code to cycle
through them until the right one is selected. Takes a couple more
seconds to switch over but the Harmony handles keeping track of which
one it's on pretty well.

Live365.
However, it is sort of like teasing to know that MP3PRO is there and
available, but SS/Squeezenetwork will not use it.

I have some tags that need to be tweaked, but nothing serious. I
haven't upgraded to 6.3.0 yet. I really need to go through and fix a
few things. I also need a better way to tag all my classical albums,
but I'm not entirely sure what that is yet.
