If you can find the model number then I suggest you search for the tech
specs on the PC or motherboard manufacturer's web site. It will
probably mention PATA and / or SATA which will tell you the drive types
the mobo supports. IDE is Integrated Drive Electronics, which describes
both PATA (older)
You might want to consider an external drive; they're cheap, easy to
install and when/if you switch computers the move is trivial.
I just bought a My Book from Western Digital, but I don't think there's
any big differences between brands/models. The one thing to consider is

There seems to be a lot of internet radio listed within itunes/radio
section not listed thru the SB.
Some of these stream at 192 kbps.
I created a new itunes playlist called '1 itunes_radio'

I have a brand new set up using a qnap 101 running slimserver 6.2.
Streaming music works ok from qnap to sb3. But I am having trouble
accessing both squeezenetwork, alienbbc and rss feeds although the
time/date appears fine on the sb3. Accessing internet streams is ok via

The WD device should work - suggest you do some googling for any

careless when choosing the device ID and command codes for their

SB to Squeezenetwork does not go through your QNAP server - so it looks
like your QNAP is either barred from accessing Internet or your QNAP
has a firewall which is preventing slimserver from accessing internet.

Before you get an external drive, make sure the USB ports on your PC are
USB 2 ports, NOT USB 1. USB 1 is found on old machines and is not fast
enough. It might be OK to stream audio off the drive, but transferring
all that music to the HDD will take weeks at USB 1 speed.

Use Mp3Tag to change the Album Artist Field to Albumartist.. This
field is recognised by slimserver, whereas Album Artist is not. Set
ss to display albums by band and all artists when viewing by artist.
Then set ss enable album and band in album browse view

goes to the next song. it still only plays 15 seconds of each song but

On the left frame, at the top, it shows the slim logo on the left corner
and three active text tags on the right: home / server settings / help
But if I try to mouse to the Home link, it does a roll over to Music

I think I know the solution to this one!
Open file explorer in win xp. Then go to the folder where your music is
located. Choose Thumbnails from the View menu. You should then be able
to see all the folders as album images. Do a full rescan in slimserver.
The album art should then be present :-)
Right this has taken me an age to suss out: I've had to write a VB
program to list a directory and match it to the excellent music library
listing available here:

But what happens is consistent: Slimserver is missing out Janacek. The
its amazes me how such highly reguarded product has so many issue with
the software. I order a SB3 based on the recommendation of the reviews
on CNET also on the poor performance of my Netgear Mp101 DAR unit. The
one thing that push me to get a SB was the fact it had digital outputs.

(worldclock.pm) that was causing the server to crash.
Seems like the worldclock screen save will not work with 6.5.x

I've run into a situation that hopefully someone has an easy fix for.
Months ago I ripped a bunch of old cassette tapes and then split the
resulting file into separate songs. Originally I had them in WAV
format. In WAV they played just fine on my SB3. To conserve

WMA files would work, so that's not it.
I wonder whether there might be something wrong with the tags, so that
they're just not showing up in the interface?
