Finthen1;200376 Wrote: > Which leads me back to my provider of the bandwidth or the router > hardware (Westell) perhaps. Very unlikely. The music files are broken up into TCP/IP packets, then sent over the wire, then reconstructed at the end. The screech would have to be specifically encoded in the music data file, or injected somehow by SlimServer. Both these are very unlikely, but it's next to impossible for the router to do either of these by accident. Unfortunately this looks like a hardware problem. Have you tried resetting Xilinx? Press and hold "1" while unplugging then replugging the power. Also take another look at your playback equipment, because this really does seem to be the first report of such a thing and it sounds like your DAC is losing its lock on the S/PDIF signal. Re: [slim] Gapless synchronized play: impossible?
I have 5 SB's and I love them and the whole concept of slimserver and everything it has done to my music listening habbits. BUT.. the often flaky synchronization of Slimserver is sometimes frustrating especially from the "whole house audio" standpoint. I used to follow the software road map in hopes that the finite clock thing would pan out but now it isn't on the road map anymore. I would like to be able to sync players and turn them on and off at will without restarting songs or otherwise disrupting the current music listening experience. I would like to play 70 minute files without them drifting off sync after 15 minutes. I notice that live internet streams behave better than pre recorded streams or files. Could slimserver be tricked into treating all music like live streams? Please don't take this as a rant. I love my squeezebox and talk them up to anyone who will listen but I would like to know if this is a realistic expectation or not. Do others also feel that the sync function needs work bad? I realize the logitec thing probably derailed some of the development towards ease of use and stability for the masses and I understand that. Just wondering if perfecting synchronization just got put on the back burner or written off altogether. am I beating a dead horse? Hello guys, my first post. Im having the same problem here, but ONLY with .wav files MP3 and FLAC files are played flawlessly. My wav files are all 16/44 pure pcm and SB3 shows the name of the file and it´s properties correctly, jut do not play them. On the file type page if I set only built in for .wav it plays a white/pink noise and no music. If I set Flac or both nothing happens. I do not have LAME installed. I´ve already updated Flac fontend to 1.4 and it did not solve the problem either. Network Test shows 100% even for 5000k I´ve already updated slimserver to 6.5.2 My wireless router is a Linksys wrt54g and I´ve even restored it to default values without success. Re: [slim] at my wit's end with SB3
You have me stumped, but I will throw a couple ideas out there. I just don't know what SB3 could possibly do that would make your DSL line lose connection. That should be strictly a function of whether there is a good enough signal on the line. Even if you wanted to I don't know what you could do on the LAN side of your router that should affect it. I am imagining some bizarre electrical problem but that is really a stretch. Have you called your DSL provider to test the quality of your line? If you can get hold of a knowledgeable tech at your ISP, he may be able to give you some idea of the reason for the disconnects. Their equipment and your DSL modem both keep track of error codes and error rates on the line. I'm not trying to just "pass the buck" as you've clearly correlated this to something that happens when the SB3 is connected. However, I can't tell you what is happening in the modem when it disconnects. -- seanadams seanadams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35065 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Cause/fix for an infrequent high frequency "SCREECH"?
Perhaps 2 hours between events on average, both less or more, in terms of time between experiencing these sonic events, sometimes days between. With music playing a 1.5 second burst of that sound a FAX makes over a telephone when dialed & blasts loudly, then the music continues. By replaying the track it does not happen at that same point in that song, and it also happens playing internet radio via Squeezenetworks. This has been occurring over the past month intermittently, as I say, some days it only will happen once. What makes it worse is the fact I am often using Referance quality headphones with my high end tube headamp, with a MHDT DAC and I fear for my gear as well as my hearing the least of which is the ruination of critical listening sessions. I've rescaned, reinstalled slimserver and am at a loss as to what to do next. is this a common indicator/symptom of the SB3 (wired) 1 & 1/2 years old failure? [slim] Sleep timer & brightness
Hi, Can anybody explain how the SB3 decides what brightness to go to when the sleep timer runs out? Obviously I'd like it dim, but sporadically it shows up as bright. Here's my guess: Setting when on or off: 4 (required to see it during daylight) Setting when idle: 1 Adjust automatically: yes (so should go dim when on or off, if I'm not pressing buttons, right?) Except what I'll do is hit the Brightness button on the remote, instead of something else, which seems to override the above settings. So when I hit the sleep button, once the timer runs out, it goes back to the manual setting I entered. I need to learn to just hit Now Playing or something, don't I? Thanks for enlightening me! Re: [slim] at my wit's end with SB3
Yes, my DSL modem is a seperate box (Westell wirespeed B90-36R516-01) connected to my router. I only have one router on the network and it is currently the D-Link DGL-4100 (wired only) and an unmanaged switch (DLink DGS-2208). This setup recently replaced my Linksys router. I thought maybe the Linksys router was causing problems, but the same thing happens with the D-Link setup. I don't currently have a wireless access point on this network and the SB3 is set to connect via ethernet which it does without difficulty. I will try a hard reset and make sure bridging is disabled. I agree that it makes no sense, but after the SB3 connects to the network the DSL modem starts to loose its connection/negotiation with the DSL line. This very rarely happens when the SB is not connected, but happens intermittently after every time my SB connects. Devices on my network that I have removed in sequence to try to isolate the problem (except for the desktop running slimserver): Linksys PAP2 (vonage phone adapter) HP Officejet 7310xi printer/scanner/fax Synology Diskstation (NAS device) IBM Thinkpad T60 (via port replicator) Main desktop PC running slimserver Thanks for responding to this post and trying to help me with this perplexing probelm. -- koozino koozino's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11464 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35065 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Ive been using a radioshark for offline recording. http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/radioshark/ Software support in linux was tricky to get started. I needed to compile the small application used for setting frequencies, which needed a very new version of libhid from subversion. A quick google suggests this hasnt improved. Once set up it has been largely problem-free. It provides an ordinary ALSA input device which I have been using to record scheduled broadcasts using arecord, scheduled by cron. All very tidy. The only inconvenience is that the reception quality does seem to be quite sensitive to position. A couple of times it has been accidentally pushed against the wall at the back of the desk, and the reception really suffers. But maybe any other FM radio in the same position would have the same problem. I am sampling at 48kHz and encoding as mp3, and audio quality is as good as I expect. Stereo FM broadcasts are band limited to 15kHz, and this ALSA input shows significant noise above that frequency. Re: [slim] Slimserver causes load on Internet traffic...
SlimServer only needs internet access for: 1. Automatic updates (you can turn this off) 2. Internet radio (only if you are pulling streams from Internet radio) 3. Plugins (RSS feeds, weather, etc.) 4. Public SlimServer access if you've chosen to do so. Item 2, it may query the station for track data even when the Squeezebox is off. Note, the Squeezebox is never really off, it's idle. Item 3, these plugins can be active as sceensavers in any mode, including idle, and even if brightness is set to 0. Item 4, you generally have to go out of your way to do this unless you have no firewall or router. Do you have a firewall or router? If you do have a firewall, you can disallow SlimServer Internet access if you're willing to lose items 1-4. You have share level security and file level security. They work together. Most times it is easiest to set the share level security to full-access for authenticated users. Then at the file / folder level set the restrictions you want. -- Paul_B Paul ~ Slimserver 6.5.2 on EPIA VIA EN15000 Mini-ITX running Windows 2003 R2 (SP2). Re: [slim] New SB3 owner - End of songs chopped off
As mentioned, please vote for the bug (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4544). It has largely been ignored eventhough months has passed, and it is annoying. It mainly happens if you're doing any transcoding. Which in your case is happening because your source files are AAC. -- M3Rocket M3Rocket's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2652 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34990 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Scan does not stop even though all files are found
Well, I've had zero success. As I said, I moved my music files to smaller folders and re-scanned each. All we successful so they are no "bad" tags or corrupt files. I then moved each batch back into my music folder and did a re-scan each time. All "post-merged" scans worked well. My final scan failed. Although SCANNER did quit properly it shows 11896 songs when I actually have 12060. Anyone have any ideas? I've tried everything I know or have read in various threads here. [slim] Problem: no audio when using an optical switch
I'm using a 3-way optical switch (this one: http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/SW001.html) to connect my Squeezebox, Xbox 360 and occasionally my laptop to my home entertainment system (which only has one optical input). This works great with the Xbox and my laptop but when ever I try and use the Squeezebox I get no audio. If I bypass the switch and connect the Squeezebox directly to HES I get sound. I've tried swapping over cables and using different inputs on the switch with no joy. Is there any reason why the Squeezebox wouldn't work with the switch but my Xbox and Laptop will? Its supposed to be capable of transmitting Dolby 5.1, DTS and PCM audio without any problems. -- Luke Redpath Luke Redpath's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=859 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35077 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Batch rearrange file structure
Have you tried Mp3tag? Right-click, select "Filename from tag", then album/title. You may have to manually flatten the directory structure for those albums, i.e. move the files to the root directory first, before doing this. Otherwise it may make subfolders within the existing folders. -- Mark Lanctot Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34910 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] N800 remote like Sonos?
I'am considering also buying a NokiaN800 tablet. My Slimerver is a 6.2.1 version , running under a Suse10 distribution. My setup is running quite stable, so i prefer not yet to update to the 6.5.2 version at this moment. I learned from this forum that the Plugin interface is different between 6.5.x and 6.2.x versions of SS, so i guess that extracting N770 Plugin from 6.5.2 and inserting it in my current 6.2.1 setup is not an option. First question : Is this correct ? If so , i probably need the earlier ZIP files which contained the Nokia770 Plugin code for the SS 6.x versions. Is there anyone who has this code still available ? Where can I find it. It used to be on the website of BenKlaas, but i looked and it seems not to be there anymore. Thank you for your help. Currently, no Harmony remote has a display as large as the one on the N800, not even the Harmony 1000, which sells for $500. So in terms of hardware, I think you're safe for awhile with the N800. I'm sure Logitech will implement some cool interface to control a Squeezebox, but I have to wonder whether it'll have full Slimserver functionality, like you can have on the N800, or if they'll "degeekify" it some. -- corbey corbey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11286 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35011 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I agree but I think it is better to find out what exactly is happening and not get your problem categorised wrongly as I think there will be a fix for some instances of 4544 shortly. While unlikely there is a possibility that your ystem is transcoding the MP3 if for example, you have disabled the MP3 built-in setting or you have enabled bit rate limiting. By default WAV files are transcoded into Flac when playing - there may be a problem with this mechanism. To turn off transcoding - goto server Setting/Filetypes uncheck WAV->FLAC and WAV->MP3 click change. [slim] home network wows
For some reason I am unable to set up a home network using 2 pcs running XP. One of the machines is saying that I may not have the correct permissions even though I have set the profile as an administrator. I can ping the server from the other pc on the network and both have an active internet connection through a DSL router. I have set up the workgroup name to be the same on both pcs What I would like to do is run the server headless and when I get new cd's rip them on the other pc and then transfer the files over the network to the SB3 directory on my server pc. I can use VNC to control the server machine but it doesnt let me transfer files to it. Is there another way, may be using s/w, that I can do this until I can get this networking issue sorted? Re: [slim] at my wit's end with SB3
It might be helpful to specify exactly which model of Wirespeed you have, and to say more about *exactly* how all of this is connected.. It may be just a few misplaced words, but I am puzzled as to why you have two routers in your setup, this is not a normal network design. If the Wirespeed is just an ADSL *modem* then fine - connect the Dlink WAN port to your modem, and the LAN ports to your PC and SB and anything else you might have. ((what else is there, BTW?). However some Wirespeeds seem to be routers as well, in which case connecting another router downstream might very well cause a lot of confusion.
