Hello,
I'd like to install a minimalist system in my kitchen composed of a
squeezebox receiver and 2 active speakers (always powered on).
Do you have any idea of the power consumption of these models (my short
list !) :
- Acoustic Energy Aego M
- AudioEngine A5
Thanks for the advice :)
AudioEngine A5 are the only speakers I've found with signal sensing. Is
there any other alternative ?

The Squeezebox Boom has great speakers. They auto-power on/off when you
play. They also use high efficiency class D amplifiers. They have been
compared to the Audioengine A2 speakers in quality.

Hello SuperQ,
I already have a Squeezebox receiver (just received last week) :)

It sounds like you already have the player in place, and you just want
to transport to the kitchen. Unless I am mistaken, you might not want to
go to squeezeboxes. Maybe a non apple option is the very simple logitech
device
For a kitchen I'd also consider Audioengine A2. They, too, have signal
sensing, take up less space and have an unbelievable sound for the size.
They don't beat the A5, of course yet forget about the initial they
can't have bass at that size reaction.
While I highly regard my Boom, it can't
Yep! iPeng does it for me. My controller gets very little use these days

I'm just worried about the output power of these speakers. My kitchen
measures 4 m by 4 m approximately. Is it enough ?

depends on what you want. If you want party level, maybe not. For a
kitchen most likely yes.

Hi
Just want to add some figures to the thread.
I have a pair of A5 and a Receiver connected, and in standby they
together consume ~10W.
When not playing music, but in active mode, they together consume
~15-16W.
When playing at moderate level the consumption is in the range of 18W.

Thanks krimmo for the details. It is not negligible at the end of the

And are you happy with your A5 ? Did you experiment the A2s ?

Hi,
I've been reading about the Play To feature of Windows 7, which
allegedly allows you to remote control compatible devices from any Win 7
machine and play music accessible to that machine's library.
If the SB were to be such a compatible device, it would greatly

Wow. All that work. You clearly have a well finished job.
I may do something similar, but very different, as I have rather trad

Most of my effort would go into DIY speakers in or on the wall.

I use iPeng and continue to marvel at the convenience it gives me over
the old remote with my squeezebox classic and squeezebox boom.
iPeng opens up so much music discovery because it is now easy to see
what is available (with Rhapsody and the other services). Much better
than the scrolling

One SC7 option often overlooked is creating simple Shortcuts.
Just create shortcuts in your Music Folder to point to any/all device
ports on your computer (USB, memory card, etc..). Without any need to
rescan, all of the new music on that device is immediately available via
SC7 Music Folder

Does iPeng completely replace the Controller? As in, would I even need

Depends.
If you plan to buy a Squeezebox Receiver, you'd need a way to set it up
