The other option is you could call support, they're good at debugging

nothing. Run upstairs to computer and song plays along.

No problem on recieving the music, running downstairs, the song names
appear when the song, running upstairs to computer, shows on the screen.
Running downstairs, as the song ends, the next song on the playlist
shows playing going from 0:00 to 3:51 or however long the song is.

Running downstairs a double check of analog connecttors to AUX
connectors on back of Denon work and work fine. AFter all, every month
or three, i turn it on, it plays one song, and then no longer plays.

I will pay someone $100.00 in cash to come to my house and fix this.
Or I will sell this 299.00 paperweight for $100. Thank god I have a CD

Re: [slim] Repair broken ethernet?

Yeah, I was afraid such damage from an outside source would not be
covered. Can't blame them.
I'd still try the credit card extended warranty route (if that is
available to you). If yes, get a written repair estimate even if it
says we do not repair such ethernet hardware problems, we only offer a
full unit replacement under warranty or something similar. Obviously
it cannot say this type of failure is not covered under warranty.
:)

Might be worth a shot.

Re: [slim] PDA-controller SlimControl 0.95

2009-08-30 Thread amey01

Used 0.98 extensively tonight. A few things:

The progress bar no longer works for indication of time or jumping to
part of track - tapping on it simply restarts the track from the
beginning;

To this end, a time indication on this would be great;

Favourites is great, but would still love to see New Music as an
option as well;

When selecting an item in a list and entering it, then going back, the
selected item is sometimes (always?) displayed in the greater list at
the bottom - it would be better if this was in the middle of the screen
or at least where it was originally. When it appears at the bottom it is
sometimes confusing - does this make sense?

Coming along well!

2009-08-30 Thread Siduhe

There's a good chance you won't even need to spend $100, lots of support
(from users, not official!) here and official support on
supp...@slimdevices.com.

However, to help you, we need some basic info:

what version of Squeezecenter are you running?
What OS is it running on?
What version are your players (Classic, Boom, SLIMP?)
How are the players connected to Squeezecenter - wireless/wired?
What format are the files you are trying to play - especially what
bitrate? Does it happen for local files or just music services like
Rhapsody or Napster?
Have you checked that both players have individual IP addresses (look
in the web interface Settings/Information)
Have you tried running the Network Test (WebUI/Settings/Help)? What
were the results?

This will give us a basic idea of how your setup works and will help
narrow down whether this is hardware/software/setup issue.

Re other posts above, not everyone is posting in their first language -
not always the easiest to describe things and get the sense of what you
are trying to say across. But certainly true you catch more flies with
honey than with vinegar (c) my grandmother...

[slim] Internet radio; Connection timed out

I have the Classic V3, a Lynksis :G router, the SRware Iron browser

Re: [slim] I will pay you to fix this

2009-08-30 Thread jdulltasha

Thank you for the replies. Hope this clarifies. The little box that is
connected to the Denon is the squeezebox slimserver (the website says it
goes by either name) that I refer to. And yes is a little bit attitude
due to fatigue with electronics not working, although I was able to get
the XM radio to work. Sometimes I get upset at myself that I have to
hire someone to fix things, because I never got around to getting
married, then I get upset because I know that that isn't what husbands
are for, and then I get worried that I get upset because I know I
shouldn't. Anyway. I do not handle frustration well sometimes.
Apologies. I live in south s.f. in my house. It is now playing a
playlist. It played internet radio earlier this morning.

The computer with the 1,000 cds on it is upstairs and that is where I
try to drive the squeezebox slimserver player. The firmware is new,
updated it last night when I plugged it in again. It plays one song off
the playlist and stops. But when I go upstairs to look at the p.c.
(yes, no apple) to see why, the screen shows that the song is playing.
But when I look at the player it show the song in now playing but no
sound. I gave up last night. This morning I turn it on and it works.
Later today I'll turn it on and it will only play one song and then no
sound. If you keep hitting play on the remote it just shuffles, no
sound. It therefore works intermittintly.

I can't believe so many people responded. Thank you for your patience.
:-)

[slim] How to use squeezeplay or softsqueeze

2009-08-30 Thread pfarrell

I've got lots of flavors of hardware SqueezeBoxen, so I have never had
much need for things like SqueezePlay. But I decided it would be fun to

I do *not* want to install SqueezeCenter on the laptop, I have a very
nice SqueezeCenter box in the basement.

I just want a player on my Ubuntu laptop, using whatever audio the
laptop has.

I see a .deb to download in the 7.3 area, and I downloaded it and
installed it. But I have no idea what to do next.

I don't see any installation instructions in the wiki (which is very
self referential on the topic of squeezeplay) and I don't see any basic
usage instructions either.

The .deb file does not seem to install any shortcuts or icons to start
the software.

How do I use this thing?

Thanks

Hello. It may be your wireless connection which is what I presume you
use. Get a crossover ethernet cable at Radio Shack or eBay and
connect you Squeezebox to your computer which is what I think you are
describing as your way of playing music i.e. computer with ripped cd's
or downloaded music fileswireless connection to SqueezeboxDenon
receiverspeakers. Have I got it right? You will have to go through
Squeezebox setup again but this time choose Wired or Ethernet
type of connection rather than wireless. This would help clarify if the
problem is the wireless network. Keep us posted.

Re: [slim] Internet radio; Connection timed out

2009-08-30 Thread garym

I had this problem a week ago and saw a few other posts on this
(although the subject topics are hard to search...a variety of topics
with same essential problem). My issue was that all of a sudden my
internet radio on SC no longer worked. Turned out that it said my
ID/password for Squeezenetwork (within SC) wasn't being accepted (all
out of the blue by the way and not actually connected with my SN account
which works fine on SN). The technical explanation has to do with
something related to DNS, addresses, the boot process of PC vs when SC
starts, etc. Bottom line, for me and some others was that downloading
7.3.4 version of SC and installing solved all problems (note 7.3.4 NOT
7.4!).

2009-08-30 Thread agillis

We have a fix for VortexBox already. Just upgrade to the latest version
(0.8) and amazon cover art will start working again.

Type

yum update

at command line.

Re: [slim] How to use squeezeplay or softsqueeze

2009-08-30 Thread Goodsounds

Here's what I just did, it seemed to work

Soft Squeeze is a menu choice under Extras in SC classic view.
Click on that.

Next frame has a line that says Click here to install and run Soft
Squeeze. Click that

A confirmation comes up - click Yes

After a very short time (a few seconds), an image of a transporter
appeared on the screen, and the player Soft Squeeze became a choice on
the SC web UI, along with the hardware SBs I have. Also, Soft Squeeze
was added as a program choice on the program menu, under Squeeze Center

I think that's all there is to it, unless it was there but not running
- I didn't try it. I'd done it before a while ago, it worked fine, so
just now I didn't bother to double check.

I don't see any option with such a name, or anything like it. On either
the default or Classic skin.

I'm currently running the beta version, Version: 7.4 - r28304 and just
don't see it.

In case I wasn't clear, when I wrote whatever audio the laptop has.
I meant play the audio from the SqueezeCenter on whatever audio
hardware the laptop has.

Hi can confirm the location of the SoftSqueeze as described.

Possibly 7.4 has (re)moved it?

You can go here: http://softsqueeze.sourceforge.net/

Cheers

I think softsqueeze is deprecated and squeezeplay is the current cool
thing. But, without any installation or usage documentation, its a bit
hard to tell. Let alone hard to use.

Thank you for the replies. Hope this clarifies. The little box that is
connected to the Denon is the squeezebox slimserver (the website says it
goes by either name) that I refer to.

What website says its a Squeezebox Slimserver? We need to know which
squeezebox you have connected to your Dennon? Look at the top of this
'PAGE' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/HardwareComparison) at the
pictures and tell us which unit you have. The price point sounds like a
Classic though.

Next, what version of Squeeze Center are you running and on what
Computer/Operating System? What file type are you trying to play (MP3,
FLAC, WAV, WMA)?

Also are you running a firewall or active virus protection?

Also how is the played connected to the Computer upstairs: wired by
Ethernet or using wireless WiFi?

Without being there, we are going to need exact answers to the
questions we ask to start helping and eliminating what it isn't. But
without more exact details, it could be any of several things.

I don't see any installation instructions in the wiki (which is very
self referential on the topic of squeezeplay) and I don't see any basic
 usage instructions either.

The .deb file does not seem to install any shortcuts or icons to start
 the software.

How do I use this thing?

I suspect this is half finished work, I haven't installed the deb
package myself but when I extracted it in a empty directory it feels
like it just install the binaries and not any shortcuts. It also seems
like it doesn't even setup the correct paths so you can run it easily.

Try to run it from a terminal prompt as:
/opt/squeezeplay/bin/jive

if that doesn't work, you might have to use:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/squeezeplay/lib /opt/squeezeplay/bin/jive

Correct, SoftSqueeze is deprecated and it's menu isn't even included in
SqueezeCenter 7.4 and later. As I've understood it, some third party
developers plan to release it through Extension Downloader ini 7.4, in
the same way as all other third party plugins are handled.

It does sound like you have intermittent wifi signal issues. This is a
fairly common problem and isn't always easy to solve. Much of the
time-of-day issues is likely due to the large number of neighbors all
using the same wifi radios all day in the bay area.
