ACC has been reported to work on a 64-bit platform if you install thet
32 bit ODBC driver on the 64 bit platform. Ofcourse you have to perform
the manual pre-requirements first like modifying the mysql my.tt file to
allowe for remote access.

the usernamen and password (both slimserver) can be left out as it is
no hard requiremend (but can't do any harm either).

Re: [slim] Squeezepod on the iPod

SqueezeMobile has more control capabilities but uses stream.mp3 so your
server has to transcode everything which means it sometimes doesn't
work.
SqueezePod is more stable and plays a lot of formats but is limited in
control features to playing albums.

Re: [slim] ACC Guide for installation

2009-12-30 Thread Richard Scales
I have tried connecting via the ODBC driver and failed (MYSQL Error ever
time) - I also tried removing the password and then the user name from the
ACC hta file - still same problem.

Should I be able to test the connection to the database using the ODBC Admin
tool?

I will try removing the ODBC drivers and re-installing the 32 bit one (64
bit driver installed at present)

I did edit the .tt file but right now I am trying to connect locally.

Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator v1.5 (ACC)

2009-12-30 Thread Chunkywizard

Hi Frank,

a couple more enhancement requests (which I don't think I have talked
to you about yet!)

1. Remove the 'Tracks' heading in the Album Catalog. I don't think it's
needed.

2. Have a no wraparound option for Track names. I have a naming
convention where information about live tracks is put in square brackets
after the track name and some titles can be very long. I would like
these to be truncated as I get the idea after 80+ characters. So instead
of seeing '26 - The Choir Of King's College, Cambridge - Es Ist Ein'
Ros' Entsprungen (A Great And Mighty CRWonder) (3:10)' I would prefer
'26 - The Choir Of King's College, Cambridge - Es Ist Ein' Ros'
Entsprungen (A Great And...' (3.10)

3. Have a no wraparound option for genres. In Compilation albums I have
genre per track (based on the artist). So I have the same issue as
point2. So I would like 'Alternative, Dance, Electronic, Hip Hop/Rap...'
instead on 'Alternative, Dance, Electronic, Hip Hop/Rap,CR Pop,
RB/Soul, Rock'

What do you think?

Both request I would like myself very much but (here comes the but)...
there is no way to determine by code when to break or end a long text
with '...' as this depends on the wideness of the internet browser
window. The presentation on screen will also not be the same as when you
print the catalog to either printer or PDF file. For printing the
browser will change the layout.

Currently for strings longer than 40 chars, the font size is sized down
to allow more characters to fit. So I'm afraid such a feature will never
be implemented.

[slim] Is my SB2 dying?

2009-12-30 Thread Nikhil

I've had my SB2 for about 4.5 years now, and its worked beautifully
until recently. When it's on it seems to be working fine. But if I
toggle the mains or disconnect and reconnect the power supply (either
end), restarting seems to be an ordeal for the device. It goes to the
Logitech screen for less than a second and then goes blank, and keeps
repeating this in a loop for several minutes. If I am lucky it comes on
after several such loops. Often it proceeds a few more steps and blanks
out before starting, and sometimes I just give up and return in a few
hours and try again until it comes on. Fortunately it is on now. I've
tried a factory reset (obviously this is not a total reset because it
shows the Logitech welcome rather than the SlimDevices welcome), but
that hasn't made a difference. Is my SB2 dying of old age? Could it be
just the power supply? Has anyone seen this behavior? Is there a
solution (other than getting an SB Classic or Touch)?

Thanks

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Classic as a wireless bridge

The amazon FAQ says:
To watch HD videos you need a fast broadband connection (3.5Mbits/sec or
 higher).

To my personal experience such speeds (sustained and longer time
periods) are borderline even when using 'wireless-N', unless you have
line of sight (in which case you can just as well use a few meters of
copper cable).

[slim] Playing through PC speakers....help!

OK, it may be a reaction to all the turkey I've devoured over the past

We're having friends round tomorrow night for New Year, and I want to

Unfortunately, I can't seem to get anything to come out of my computer!
Can the Squeezebox software be set to play through the PC in addition to

Download Squeezeplay for a computer based software player (emulates in
many ways a hardware SB). Unfortunately, the current version of
Squeezeplay will NOT work if you are synching two or more players. You
might try to find a copy of SOFTSQUEEZE (it was the software player that
came with the 7.3.x versions of the server. It may work with sync.
Search this forum on both these names and you'll eventually find
download locations. I don't recall them at the moment.

Re: [slim] Cygwin1.dll (multiple copies)

2009-12-30 Thread wobbly

I'll give that a try, that is, removing the SBS copy of cygwin1.dll in
favor of the standard cygwin install version.

There are conflicts that occur if one version is the old 1.5 variant
and you have moved forward to 1.7, which is true if you are running
Windows 7 since 1.5 was not supported on windows 7. Hopefully (for me)
SBS is running the latest version of the DLL, or at least not taking
advantage of non-compatible features.

I plan to spend part of the New Year weekend sorting out these issues
as well as getting 'wake on lan' working. (that is a separate topic :-)

Re: [slim] Playing through PC speakers....help!

2009-12-30 Thread tcutting

You could try Squeezeslave. It's a command line player (no user
interface). It's nice because it doesn't use much of the computer's
resources... you can run it, and then use whatever UI you normally use
to control it (you can access via your Web interface to Squeezebox
Server, or if you have Controller you can use that).
Be aware, however, that synchronization between a hardware player and
a software player such as squeezeslave, softsqueeze or Squeezeplay is
not perfect. I would hope that someday Squeezeplay would provide decent
synchronization, but right now I believe it won't play at all
synchronized to a hardware player!
Here's a link to the current thread about Squeezeslave - it's a
third-party app that is currently being supported by ralphy.

Re: [slim] Playing through PC speakers....help!

2009-12-30 Thread maggior

It wasn't a reaction to the turkey afterall :-).

All of the suggestions will work. Personally, I use squeezeslave to
play music from my server.

As somebody else noted - the sync between hardware and software players
isn't perfect. As long as there is good isolation between the 2
listening areas, it shouldn't be a problem, otherwise you will hear an
echo due to them being out of sync.

All I get is some web pages opening up to my home page.

It opens automatically in the default browser. They are located in the
AlbumCatalogs subfolder located in the folder where ACC was started
uless you have manually changed the output path yourself in ACC.

What OS do you use?
From which folder do you execute ACC from?

[slim] Using both outputs on transporter?

2009-12-30 Thread apb

I was wondering if it is OK to use both outputs on the Transporter
simultaneously? I'm thinking of sending the RCA outputs to some
subwoofers and the XLR outputs to some powered monitors. Should I expect
this to work?

[slim] Suddenly can't connect to server

2009-12-30 Thread Squanderbug

I've had a squeezebox 3 for a couple of years now and it's worked fine.

However, the last few days it won't connect to the server. It connects
to the network and obtains an IP address fine, but then won't connect to
my music server.

The only thing I can see has changed is I got an Ipod for Christmas,
installes iTunes and ticked the use iTunes box on the slimserver
program. It still seemed to work after this, but then stopped.

I have unticked use iTunes and rescanned the library but no joy.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: [slim] Dual Core Squeezebox Server Hardware

2009-12-30 Thread apn

I was in the same predicament as the OP, with a P3/500 showing it's age
with frequent rebuffering messages when the machine was under load.

I considered the Atom. It's great little CPU, but I had a difficult
time finding single/dual-core Mobo's with more than a couple of SATA
connectors.

If you only have 2 SATA connectors, then serious RAID is out of the
question, and you're stuck w/ mirroring, which constrains your growth
options. Are you guys not building redundancy into your libraries? I'd
hate to lose a disk and have to rebuild a library.

With my library currently at ~1.6TB and growing, I decided on the go
big, or go home approach and just built the following;

- Intel E5200; 45 watt, dual-core CPU
- ASUS P5G43T-M Pro Mobo (6 SATA connectors)
- 4GB RAM
- 4 x Seagate low-power 2.0TB HDDs
- Windows Home Server

It's certainly more machine than I need right now, but I figure I've
got room to grow, plus it can do multi-duty as a torrentslave, HTPC
streaming audio/video/pics to my WDTV-live, and (via WHS) I have the
option to schedule automatic backups and a host of other administrative
chores for my other PCs.

I also considered Drobo, Acer Home-Share, HP MediaSmart and other
ready-made options, but liked the flexibility of building my own, plus I
had a suitable case and other parts lying around.

It sounds like the IP of you server could have changed. This can happen
when your wireless/wired connection is using DHCP (automatic) IP
assignment.

The easiest fix (so we don't have to talk about software levels,
blah..) is to do a reset on the player. This will cause it to go
through the setup dialog..

Let us know.

RAID is not backup.

It is 'high availability' or 'faster'... but not backup.

If your machine decides that it doesn't want to run 12V to the drives,
but instead thinks 24V or something else would be more fun... you will
lose everything, even RAIDed.

Cheap backup: external drive(s) that are powered down and taken
offsite.

Agreed, but I'd rather have redundancy for the day WHEN (not IF) one of
the HDDs goes south, the probability of which is 1.0 i.e. far higher
than the probability of your event :p

...plus I didn't mention that I'm mirrored to an offsite Drobo, and we
resync periodically.

Redunant AND backed up :D

[slim] Playlists not showing up

2009-12-30 Thread dundon00

I have an updated SqueezeBox and am trying to get a simple m3u playlist
to show up inside the playlist section of the device. I created an m3u
playlist in Winamp, copied it into the playlist folder that is
configured in my SqueezeBox, and no playlists are showing up in the
playlist list when I try to browse to them after I scan. The logs
appear to show that they were improted, but for some reason it's just
not finding them. Ideas?
