yes - they can use the same server or different servers. If you want to

[slim] Consider buying Radio Player or Boombox

2010-11-06 Thread saptarshi

Hello,

I am really interested in purchasing either the Radio Player or the
Boombox .

I'm not sure what the difference except for the remote and that one is
mono vs Boombox's stereo.

Are there other differences?

Thank you

The comparison seems to leave out the supported formats for Radio and
Touch players.

Radio natively supports AAC whereas Boom does not. This means Boom
cannot play some radio station without a local SBS server.

I'm using Squeezepad now for some days.
It works perfect.
Only, how can I display album cover pictures when playing.
The left side of the display is black with a round circle.
Does it download automaticly these images?
How can I add them automaticly.

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2010-11-06 Thread bluegaspode

Hi scannie,

for your local library you need to provide the album art along the
tracks-files.
If you put a file called 'folder.jpg' in every folder of an album (and
have the Squeezebox-Server rescan your library) these will then also
show in SqueezePad.

There was a thread started recently about programs that help you
downloading album-art for your library:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82749

Don't hesitate to ask further questions, this forum is full of nice
people helping others out !

Cheers

[slim] Anyone up for a fun little survey?

2010-11-06 Thread Ikabob

Ok...I hope you do not think this cute little survey is too stupid but,
I have been enjoying my newly-found (actually 1 year in February)
Squeeze System so much. I really think it has changed my day-to-day
habits in many ways. So, I was wondering if I was alone in this regard.
So I pose a question to all you Squeeze-lovers

In ONE LINE how has the Squeezeboxes OR the available music services
changed your life (if at all)?

Rules: 1.only a one line response
2. only one idea at a time and then must wait 6 other responses
before adding your next response.

This little game might fall flat (I'm prepared for that, but might be
interesting).
I will go first:

I watch much less television because I am listening to music, etc.

[slim] What should be in the next version of SqueezePad (part 2)

2010-11-06 Thread bluegaspode

SqueezePad 1.6 is going to the AppStore this weekend and will feature
- album and artist caching
- playlist protection
- some controls on the screensafer
- WOL
- server detection.

As with this release the most voted features from my last poll
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=563167) are finished,
it's time to ask for current priorities again.

Is I'm still just a lonely programmer spending the nights on
SqueezePad, things can just come one after the other.

So take your time and vote for the thing you want me to start at next.

MORE IMAGES OF YOUR MUSIC COLLECTION
Are you bored of seeing the same covers over and over ?
Why not (automatically) loading some from web and showing them instead
?
Pictures from concerts, promo-material from the artist - it's all
available on Flickr, Last.FM, Google …

Why not browse all these images like in the 'Photos' App ? Fullscreen,
with scaling, as a slideshow ... while you are listening to them ?

MORE SCREENSAFERS
What about a new screensafer, that shows part of the playlist, like in
this mockup:
http://www.squeezepad.com/?attachment_id=285

BETTER PLAYER SYNCING
Syncing players is available in the current version of SqueezePad via
the default logitech menu. If you do it often, the Logitech way
(select a player, sync it to another player, switch to the next player
...) might not be the most comfortable one for you.

Along easier 'ad hoc'-Synchronisation I want you to save and load your
named set of synced Players, because usually parties often span the
same rooms and players that need to be synced.

MYSQUEEZEBOX.COM - PLAYER SWITCHING
Someone needing regular player switching from and to MySB.com ? Then
this is your vote.

BETTER SEARCH
What about a Search-Control somewhere on the main UI ?
Enter a search term and get a combined search for
artists/albums/titles.

DRAG'N'DROP FOR THE PLAYLIST
What about dragging songs or albums from left to right into the
playlist ?

TRACKSTAT RATINGS
Never used this feature myself - other Apps have this feature so it
might be important. Tell me with your votes !

IRBLASTER INTEGRATION
Get better controls to control your Amps via IRBlaster.

BIG SCREEN WITH ALBUM COVERS FOR SELECTION
A screen filled with the cover art of your library for searching and
selecting. Sorta like the example posted here:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=560429postcount=202

SOMETHING ELSE
If you think your most important feature is not in the list, vote here
and comment in this thread.
If this point gets enough votes I'll start the poll again with
different options :D

Re: [slim] Trying to listen to squeezebox audio stream in web browser not working

It looks like from the posts I've seen in the past, I should be able to
 go to:

http://myserverip:9000/stream.mp3 (using any media player that plays
back streamed mp3s) ...and hear what I can hear on a squeezebox client.
Unfortunately, although, I can see a valid stream loading continuously,
there is no sound. I can tell there is a valid stream since the media
players I've tried all show that they are decoding a continuous mp3
stream... but, there's just no audio.

The reason I'm trying to do this is so I can hopefully have some way of
listening to squeezebox on my android phone. It would be nice if
 Squeeze Commander had audio.

Maybe someone has a very easy way of using Squeeze Commander +
listening to the audio (which I dont know how to do correctly to get
 sound).

I even tried playing back the audio stream even on the server itself:
http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3 but still, there is no sound. During
this time, I can hear my client playing back audio.

I am using LAME to transcode everything to mp3/128kbps. I dont know if
 that makes a difference.

 Thanks in advance,
 Michael

Why not try Winamp for Android?

In iPeng there's a difference between a folder that only contains tracks

The screen shots are portrait but this works similarly in landscape

Hi,

I would like to have a kind of display modus. This means if you turn
the display modus on, you could see everything displayed on the iPad
which is normally shown on the display of your player eg touch, or
transporter.

So I can sit in front of my transporter scroll with any remote i like
through my library and see the scrolling, menues and everything on my
ipad placed near me.

I don't see the password--it's blank again, as if I never entered the
password earlier. The turning off and on suggestion didn't work,
unfortunately. I notice that on the web gui, it shows a particular song
playing (the timer counts down) but on the SB itself, the correct song
is displayed, now playing is indicated but no sound comes out.

It's as if every few minutes some process is run that interferes with
the music and causes the SB to lose its place and try to reboot itself.

Yes, Musikordner which is Mysic Folder is in the top level. What you
see on the left hand side is always the top-level menu, the navigation
through lower-level menus is on the right hand side.
iPeng keeps the menu tree for all top-level menus so if you go to e.g.
My Apps and then come back to Music Folder you'll be on the same
level in the music folder hierarchy as before.

7.6 can be very unstable. I wouldn't use that unless you are really
interesting in playing around with truly beta versions. 7.5.2 is beta
but quite stable.

if your player is connected to SbS, it will NOT show up as connected at
mysqueezebox.com. That is the correct behavior.

aha. that's better. and 7.5.2 is actually fine. But I'm at a loss. I
really thought rebooting your router would help. And just because other
wireless devices work, doesn't mean the sb player will work (IP address
overlap, etc. etc.) can cause issues (thus the complete router reboot
to start from scratch on assigning stuff).

Try this: temporarily connect the player to your router with ethernet.
go through setup to choose ethernet, etc. Then see if you can get
everything working, mysb.com credentials entered, etc. I'm just trying
to get wifi, internet out of the equation for the moment.

I agree :-D

As to navigation: yes the left hand pane has all the menus you know
from the Squeezebox. The video by the way doesn't show the playlist,
which slides in from the right (you can see that on a screenshot on my
website)
A future version will have a button to dismiss the pane with the main
menu, the cover area will then move to the left.

Then you can choose to see either:
- main menu and cover
- cover and playlist
- main menu and playlist (and not much of the cover)
and of course switch between all these modes quite fast.

1st + 3rd option is available already today. 2nd as described, when the
main menu can be dismissed in a future version.

Less sleep in the night and no more hobbies (beside family) because I'm
working on a particular iPad-App every day.

I now find myself only watching muted football games while listening to
various music selections (thanks to Rhapsody or Slacker).

Re: [slim] What should be in the next version of SqueezePad (part 2)

2010-11-06 Thread Frorsteig

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83106

Question: What's your highest priority

- More images of your music collection
- More Screensafers
- Better player syncing
- Mysqueezebox.com - Player Switching
- Better Search
- Drag'n'Drop for the playlist
- TrackStat Ratings
- IRBlaster integration
- Big Screen with Album Covers for selection
- Something else

You mentioned an option for new screensaver modes and I looked at your
mock up. Would it be difficult to show the playlist along with the
large album art in the screensaver mode? I noticed while I was making
the image below that you posted a response for something similar on the
main screen in another thread.

Yeah - this type of layout will be possible on the mainscreen in the
future.
The main menu will get a small button (like the playlist pane). Then
you can dismiss the main menu but leave the playlist open. The cover
will move to the left then.

In the end it will quite look like the mockup you did (will have the
normal bars on top and bottom though). I think this will be a very cool
feature once implemented.

 Thanks Gary:
I downloaded the plugin, how do I load it or get SC to find it?

shouldn't have to download it exactly. Go to SbS Settings Plugins
Tab. Check the box to show 3rd party plugins and you should then see
xmradio plugin in the list. Check the box next to it, click apply, the
restart SbS. It will then be installed. You then go back to plugins,
and the settings button next to xmradio. You'll need to enter your
xmradio credentials, then xmradio will show up under internet radio.

p.s. Only works if you're running SbS on your own computer. Doesn't
work if just running mysqueezebox.com

Thanks again. I think it's time to update, my SC 7.3.3 doesn't have that
option in the settings\plugins tab.

i think maybe the plugin requires 7.4 or 7.5 anyhow. I've had very good
luck with 7.5.2. Its the official 7.5.1 with a couple of very minor bug
fixes. Very stable.

Re: [slim] Don't forget the switch

2010-11-06 Thread carrera

Hi,

Very interesting!

First time I hear about problems with switches - never expected that
there could be some probs.

I am using 2 Netgear GS108 and never had any problems with them. The
biggest problems I ever had were when using powerline adapters.

Switches are often one of the last things that users suspect, though
they can definitely have problems. Even switches from better known
quality vendors.

If your network speeds don't seem to be what they should be, or you're
having wacky network problems - maybe repeated occasional dropped or
slow connections, your switch could definitely be a potential culprit.

Finding a bad switch is obviously easy if it simply does not function -
but that rarely happens. Typically failing switches are occasionally
flaky, or they run at less than full speed, or only some ports on the
switch exhibit bad behavior.

Some direct things you can try if you want to check for switch
problems: swap ports, limit the number of networked devices (while
running tests), bypass the switch (often with a crossover cable, check
the signal status and speed at an upstream or downstream connections,
and of course - borrow or purchase another switch.

Yes, they are usually dead reliable, but I had a big power spike or
something that fried two nice switches. They were major brands, i.e.
D-Link or Netgear or Linksys (I don't remember). I just put in a spare,
and ordered new ones from Newegg

I've had an Ethernet network in my house since the early 1990s, and
these were the first hub or switches that I've ever seen fail. But it
can and does happen.
