Re: [slim] Control your SqueezeBox or Transporter with Foobar2000

2011-03-06 Thread stuffedspacedog

Given the interest in using FooSQ in a variety of different set-ups, I'm
going to make a version that is fully configurable through the editing
of a simple text file.

These are the parameters I have now:

[parameters]
SqueezeBoxServerIP=127.0.0.1
SqueezeBoxServerCLIPort=9090
Foobar2000Location=C:\Program Files\foobar2000\foobar2000.exe
AMIPFile=C:\nextsong.txt

If you want other options like password security, selecting playerID
etc just let me know.

My FOOSQIP link is as you wrote, with the right server IP. It launches

So then ?
And what about the FooID shortcut ?

You use the shortcut to launch Foobar, if there is no error message it
has successfully connected to the SqueezeBox Server. Start playing
some music, see what happens.

If your Vortexbox has an IP address which is configured by DHCP then
it's possible that it may change over time. I'd advise you to set a
fixed IP address in your Vortexbox otherwise my script has no idea

Re: [slim] Control your SqueezeBox or Transporter with Foobar2000

2011-03-06 Thread stuffedspacedog

Hola! Here's the updated fully configurable version.

There are some under the hood changes for greater stability.

This version now loads FB2K from within the script.

Unzip the file and place both FooSQ.exe and FooSQ.ini in your
Foobar2000 directory.

FooSQ is now fully configurable with a text .ini file, the parameters
are here:

[parameters]
SqueezeBoxServerIP=127.0.0.1
SqueezeBoxServerCLIPort=9090
SqueezeBoxPlayerID=00:04:20:10:0f:d2
Foobar2000Location=C:\Program Files\foobar2000\foobar2000.exe
AMIPFile=C:\nextsong.txt

You can edit this text file in Windows Notepad. Please note you WILL
need to change SqueezeBoxPlayerID to the MAC address of the player you
want to stream music to. You can find this in the SqueezeBox web
interface under settings player settings, it's at the bottom of the
screen.

Once you have edited the .ini file, just run FooSQ.exe.

Make sure you followed the instructions at www.at-sea.com/FooSQ.html
first.

Enjoy!  Alan

Re: [slim] Replacement IR remote for SBClassic?

2011-03-06 Thread toby10

Keep in mind two issues using the Touch IR remote in place of your
original SB3 IR remote...

1. it has no Brightness button, so you will have to set Brightness
manually in the player settings

2. the last three buttons are not coded properly, but they all work.
ex: Favorites button = Now Playing

Why are you replacing your SB3 IR remote?

If it was dropped they are usually fixable doing a minor solder repair
of the IR eye inside the remote.

[slim] Albums duplicated from playlists: 7.5.3

2011-03-06 Thread rkeeney

I'm running the latest version (7.5.3 on Netgear NV MAS) and notice that
some album names are listed twice, where the second listing is for
tracks that are also referenced on a playlist.

Music LibraryArtist=Elvin BishopAlbum=Big Fun (shows up twice)

The first listing shows the regular complete album with all tracks, the
second listing shows just the tracks from the playlist.

I don't recall seeing this behavior before in previous versions. Is
this an intentional new 'feature' or an unintended 'bug'?

2011-03-06 Thread volpone

Thank's a lot for your work Alan !
Could you please post the source script ?

As stated in this thread in my preceding post(October/3/2010):
  I'm using it on Windows but with a SBS and music library located on a
 NAS device (ReadyNas Pro). In this configuration there is a difference
 beetween the song path as seen by the script and the path used by the
 SBS:
 = Script on Windows: //Readynas/mylibrary/directory/mysong
 = SBS on my NAS: directory/mysong

 I've made a quick and dirty adaptation to your script to remove the
 extra path information (//Readynas/mylibrary/ in my example) from the
 command sent via CLI.

It will be very usefull for guys using SBS on a Nas to set the path
parameters in the ini files and let the script troncate the CLI command
path as needed, for example:

[parameters]
.
Foobarpath: //Readynas/mylibrary (music library path as seen from
Foobar on Window)
SBSpath: /mylibray (music library path as seen from SBS on the NAS)

Let me know if you understand the needs for this adaption ?

Regards
Volpone

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2011-03-06 Thread bluegaspode

I found a workaround for the bug for anyone brave enough to mess with
the perl files of your installations.
It's only recommended if you cannot find some older nightly build or
don't want to revert to the stable 7.5.3.

On your server find the file Cometd.pm
- on linux find / -name Cometd.pm
- on Mac: in Finder go to /Library/PreferencePanes, right click
Squeezebox.prefPane and select show package contents, then go to
Contents/server/Slim/Web/Cometd.pm
- on Windows: sorry I don't know

in the file find the following snippet (it's very far down):

Code:

# Queue request results via Manager
my $clid = $request-connectionID;
$manager-queue_events( $clid, $events );

# It's possible for multiple callbacks to be triggered, for example
# a 'power' event will send both serverstatus and playerstatus data.
# To allow these to batch together, we need to use a timer to call
# deliver_events
Slim::Utils::Timers::setTimer( undef, Time::HiRes::time() + 0.2, sub {
$manager-deliver_events( [], $clid );
} );

replace the whole snippet with the following two lines (this is the
code where it still works)

Code:

# Deliver request results via Manager
$manager-deliver_events( $events );

Don't upgrade anymore then (or repeat the patch until the bug report
has been closed).

Re: [slim] Albums duplicated from playlists: 7.5.3

Well, it's not a feature. Are the pathnames _exactly_ the same for the
two listings? Sometimes if the library is on a network-attached drive
SBS will show one under the UNC path and one under the mapped drive
path. Or sometimes these issues expose shortcuts/symlinks that the user
forgot about.

There where times when one could 'apply' for this right, but I never
wanted to have it. Back then I didn't like the way Logitech tried to
get even more work done by the community for stuff that is and should

Anyway: I do have email-adresses of some developers and put them in

Sometimes I have restarted the server it could be the last album
Ilistened to the day before.

The big album art is shown and i can skip to next track , but if tuch
the tab The make the playlist apear it just spins forever .

If go artist or album and start the same album again the list is there
instantly.

I'm using 7.6 soo it may not be disastrous just yet . It migth even be
expected  .

It was fortunate to get both Squeezepad and iPeng when you are running
betas , together there is still enough functionality left :)

 SqueezeBoxServerIP=127.0.0.1 Note that this is the IP address for
 the SqueezeBox Server, NOT the IP address of the player.
 SqueezeBoxServerCLIPort=9090

 Foobar2000Location=C:\Program Files\foobar2000\foobar2000.exe
 AMIPFile=C:\nextsong.txt

 Make sure you followed the instructions at www.at-sea.com/FooSQ.html
 first.

 If you want to stream to more than one player, just create seperate
 sub-directories named after each room: Bedroom, Hallway etc., each with
 a copy of FooSQ.exe and FooSQ.ini, then edit the .ini files in each one
 to include the MAC address of the respective players.

Re: [slim] Slimserver Question

2011-03-06 Thread aubuti

Look on the bottom of the SB. If it says Squeezebox it's an SB1. If it
says Squeezebox2 it's an SB2. If it's an SB1 and you're trying to
connect it wirelessly check how your new router is set up. SB1 only
supports wireless B and WEP encryption. Your new router could be in
G only mode, or using WPA encryption, or some other configuration
that's incompatible with SB1. If that's the situation you'll need
either to connect the SB1 via ethernet, or change the router settings.

Re: [slim] From out of the blue - dodgy wireless reception?

2011-03-06 Thread Nick_G

Thanks for the replies so far.

I plugged it back in and switched it on this morning and all was fine;
in fact it seemed faster and more responsive than recently when
accessing stuff, and so I presumed that a fresh reboot had solved the
problem. It was fine up until early this afternoon in fact.

I spoke too soon. I switched it on a few minutes ago to find the top
level menu again with just 2 items: Internet Radio and Settings. No
Favourites, no Applications, no My Music, just the barest of bare
bones. The odd thing is by selecting the music notes icon it connected
to the last radio station I'd been listening to successfully so the
wireless network must be working fine. I've unplugged it again for
now.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's related to the bugs in SBS v7.5.3
that's being discussed in the other thread. Someone mentioned they'd
updated to 7.5.4 but it's not there in the menus - it's telling me that
7.5.3 is up-to-date.

My wi-fi router is an Orange Livebox and up until last night it's
worked absolutely fine.

So could this be a software bug? I will try rebooting the router a
little later.

You should also check out what other networks are around that could be
stepping on yours, as toby suggested. If your computer runs Windows,
download NetStumbler (freeware) and use it to see what other wifi
networks are in your area, how strong they are in your location, and
what channels they are using.

 Why are you replacing your SB3 IR remote?
 If it was dropped they are usually fixable doing a minor solder repair
 of the IR eye inside the remote.
Well, it's my sister's remote that's on the blink. As she lives in
another time-zone and isn't the sort to pry apart things and poke
around...I figure that buying a new one is best.

I just pulled apart a old SB1 era remote that had failed. The IR
bulb's solder connections are intact. What's clearly broken, though,
is one of the leads on the rectangular pumpkin-colored component at the
very tail-end of the PCB. It has CQ445G printed on it and the printed
square on the PCB where the part goes is labeled 455KHz.

Any idea what that component is and where a replacement could be found?

I'm runnning a Mac here. The built-in Airport is showing several other

Is there a Mac equivalent of NetStumbler?

Re: [slim] Replacement IR remote for SBClassic?

2011-03-06 Thread Phil Meyer
I'm interested in this conversation, because my SB3 remote seems to be on its
way out - I really have to press the buttons quite hard to get any response now.

It's a pity that with each new release, there's a new remote with different
function buttons. Why is brightness and size missing from Touch remote? They
are still functions appropriate to Touch.

1. it has no Brightness button, so you will have to set Brightness
manually in the player settings

2. the last three buttons are not coded properly, but they all work.
ex: Favorites button = Now Playing

Being a classic SB, I guess the button functions can be re-mapped through a
custom IR file.

I don't know if there would be a problem with press-and-hold brightness key to
install new firmware though.

Hello, the SqueezeBoxServerCLIPort is wrong. You have put in 9000,
which is the web interface, not the CLI. Change 9000 to 9090 and try
again. You can check the correct port number by opening the SqueezeBox
web interface settings plugins CLI interface.

Thanks for the suggestion. Apparently, in my last upgrade the path
names weren't added correctly. Changed that and rescanned and looks
like it's OK now.

Here's the updated version, there's a small bugfix to prevent the song
playing again after FB2K has closed. Also the AutoIt script is in

 parameters in the ini files and let the script troncate the CLI command

 .
 Foobarpath: //Readynas/mylibrary (music library path as seen from
 Foobar on Window)
 SBSpath: /mylibray (music library path as seen from SBS on the NAS)

 Let me know if you understand the needs for this adaption ?

Hello, so basically you want to strip //Readynas from the CLI
commands?

I think I could just add one parameter NASPath and then use an
additional stringreplace on $m_sq immediately before each TCPSend (with
playlist play or insert).

$m_sq = StringReplace($m_sq, $m_NASPath, )

If the NASPath parameter is blank, then stringreplace will not make any
changes.

Can you send me your script so I can see exactly what you've done
before making these changes?

Re: [slim] Need help pointing towards itunes

2011-03-06 Thread fortitude.five

Yes, I almost always browse to my music folder with SBS and do not use
artist, album, etc. The reason for this is that I like to go in and
either select lossless or 24bit albums to listen to, but I also like to
have access to my mp3 albums that I have only in lossy format if I want
to listen to those as well. I also want to know what type of file I'm
hearing, and I don't have my library memorized to know each album by
bitrate. Are we saying that there is no good way to really do this?

Re: [slim] SB release 7.5.3: Unreliable. Anyone else?

2011-03-06 Thread pablolie

I have 3 SB3, 3 Booms, 1 Duet and one Radio... and a large library that
consists of MP3s and quite a few FLACs.

I have just experienced one hangup while playing FLACs. Other than that
it seems stable for me (knock on wood) wven though I have played a mix
of players in full synch.

I run 7.5.3 on Linux - maybe the instabilities are platform dependent?
In any case, I am glad I have observed no major issues. Then again, I
have not experienced major benefits or changes, either, but I try to
keep up with stable releases.

Re: [slim] Need help pointing towards itunes

2011-03-06 Thread aubuti

No, it's actually pretty easy to do what you want. However it sounds
like your file organization is a mess, and you probably need to
rearrange things to get them to work the way you want with SBS. For the
most part SBS doesn't care about your file/folder structure, but if you
insist on using 'browse music folder' then you'll have to have it
organized.

1) forget about iTunes integration with SBS. You can keep using iTunes
if you like, just think of it as separate from SBS.

2) put all your lossless files that iTunes can't handle (FLAC or
24-bit) in one branch of the tree, eg,
/music/lossless/[artists]/[albums] or
/music/lossless/24-bit/[artists]/[albums] and
/music/lossless/16-bit/[artists]/[albums] (NB: I'm using OSX or Linux
style pathnames here, so if you're on Windows just adapt them.)

3) put all the things you have only in lossy (eg, MP3) format in a
different branch, at the same level, such as
/music/lossy/[artists]/[albums]

4) if you have any copies of the things in (2) that have been
transcoded so that iTunes can handle them, put them in a another branch
at the same level, such as /music/iTunes/[artists]/[albums]

If you're on OSX or Linux, put a symbolic link in /music/lossless that
points to (3), and put another one in /music/iTunes that points to (3).
If you're on Windows, use Windows shortcuts to the folders instead of
symlinks. Then point SBS to /music/lossless and point iTunes to
/music/iTunes. You should be able to see your entire library in either
program, be able to tell lossless/lossy and bit-depth, etc. without
memorizing anything.

Yes.

Really old fw then the only option was press brigthness to upgrade

Then there was a setting in the fw menu to choose the behavior.

And lately I think it's only auto update, the option is removed.

It sort of makes sense as you have no choice anyway.
