Re: [slim] Smart people will stay with Squeezebox

2017-09-01 Thread johtem

Almost 6 years ago my favorite radiostation stopped broadcoasting. I
bought a Touch and a Nas, ripped al my CD's and discovered new internet
radiostations. The Squeezebox is one of my best buys ever and really
chanced the way of listening music.

I bought 3 radio's, a spare Touch, build a Picoreplayer with Hifiberry
and one Pi with Max2Play with Kodi for my kids and LMS as server.

All the support from Michael and the guys from Picoreplayer and Max2Play
is fantastic! And don't forget all the available plugins.

Like frankd i am always wondering why people chance to another system.
I'm sure i will use the Squeezebox system as long as possible.

For about $100 one can snap together components readily available on
Amazon and have a player just as capable as the original Logitech
hardware. Can't beat that!

bufferThreshold will only be called if your plugin is setup correctly.
Are you sure it is being called ?

For continuous (i.e. not file) streaming a SB player has a threshold -
LMS will send data to player abd player will buffer. Player will only
startplaying when "threshold" has been met. A value of less than 10
usually result in problems. The smaller practical value is about 50.

Delays in playing can depend on a lots of factors but you have given no
details so without details no real suggestions as I would be here all
night typing. If you are using transcoding (i.e. socketwrapper.exe is
running) on a Windows systems (espec Win8 or later) there can be strange
long delays in inititial stream setup - they vary according to Windows
system configuration.

Re: [slim] Logitech should resurrect squeezebox

2017-09-01 Thread FredFredrickson

I realize I started the latest beat-the-dead-horse topic, but I really
think with new sections of walmart and bestbuy dedicated to bluetooth
speakers, that connected, syncable speakers are absolutely the next big
thing.

Even Sonos might be a little ahead of the market right now.

Chromecast audio is proving that there's going to be a market for it.
All Logitech has to do is come up with another touch-like product that
has a LMS built in, get rid of all mysqueezebox.com stuff, and put some
weight behind the online streaming companies again (like spotty).

I've seen simple bluetooth speakers in the $100-$200 range. Imagine if
logitech had in their UE display a particular speaker that connected to
wifi, could play any song on amazon or spotify, and if you purchase more
than one of them, you can sync them in separate rooms...

It's a good idea. Pop a 3.5" headphones and a digial coax or optical
port on there, and you've got the next gen squeezebox.

[slim] Buffer-less or minimal buffer streaming?

2017-09-01 Thread warthog9

I've got an audio feed inside my house that I'd like to stream into the
squeezebox, and I've got that working via a plugin into the squeezebox
(basically it's converting an rtsp stream and pushing it into the LMS) -
the problem is I'd like to get the latency / buffer lag down as low as
possible at the listening end, and I'm not sure how to convince the
system to do so. The latency from the streaming is sub-second right now
as measured at the LMS machine and my ill-timed listening, which is
close enough for my purposes. However once I push the stream out to the
squeezebox devices I end up with the audio getting buffered and delayed
by between 8 and 12 seconds, which is far more than I'd like to deal
with.

I saw a post about bufferThreshold and have been playing with that via
`sub bufferThreshold { }` in my plugin,
and it's clear it's adjusting things, though not having a lot of success
on that front.

So I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how to get the buffering
down, while still being able to use the squeezebox end points. What's
the minimal buffering one can get away with on a local network with the
squeezebox?

[slim] Smart people will stay with Squeezebox

2017-09-01 Thread frankd

A provocative title to counter all the "I will leave the Squeezebox
Community" threads.
I am really astonished how many people state in this forum that they
leave the community and Switch to Sonos and other systems. I will stay
with Squeezebox and actually I am buying used equipment for my friends
to provide them with the best experience of music ever:
in my personal opinion, the Squeezebox experience has never been as good
and as cheap as it is now. Let me explain why I prefer squeezebox versus
all other solutions on the market:

- Software players are available for all major operating systems
including android, Mac, Linux, Iphone, Windows...
- Many browser software is available on all operating systems (androidk
windows, iphone...)
- Cost-effective Squeezebox compatible servers are available, e.g
Raspberry Pi (even MusicIP works there)
- It is compatible to the outside world (e.g. Apple, DLNA, Chromecast)
thank to Philippe
- Redundant plugins for the shutdown of Mysqueeezebox.com already exist
- No worries about the future, (tuninin bv Michael Herger, Shoutcast,
Ickstream and more...)
- Philippe made our system compatible to the broader outside world:
Chromecast, Apple Airplay, DLNA, I have never seene such a compatibility
list for any other 3rd party...
- all major streaming services are available (I do not use them
personally, thus a disclaimer I do not know about the quality of
integretaion)
- In contrast to many other streaming hardware, you have direct feedback
(screens) and interaction possibilities (buttons...)
- You can adapt your setup to the smallest detail.
- for every problem you find answers in this community or even software,
workarounds, bugfixes...

I struggle to see the reason why people leave this community - nothing
has changed, all is better than ever...
A special thanks to Michael Herger, Philippe, Erik and all the others
who contribute to this community...

Re: [slim] Browsing folders with visible album covers

2017-09-01 Thread Apesbrain

In the web GUI, if you select within "Genres" or "Years" then the last
entry on the list says "All Albums". Click on it and you can browse
that genre or year by album cover: show "Large Artwork" and sort however
you like. I've often thought it would be more useful if the "All
Albums" (or "All Album Covers") link came up at the top of the list
rather than the end.

Using LMS to resize artwork is enforced when running LMS in
--nomysqueezebox mode. Therefore it's little surprising they behave the
same.

I guess there's a bug in the app code which mess up relative vs.
absolute paths. Or where it incorrectly handles resizing, eg. trying to
send the imagproxy URL to mysqueezebox.com etc.

Whatever it is: it won't be fixed...

Hi Michael.
It has something to do w/ using "--nomysqueezebox"!

When I leave that parameter out, the Artwork appears on the Nowplaying
Screen!
However, then it is missing from the playlist (via Spotty).which
worked before when using "--nomysqueezebox"

Strange

[slim] Question about old official Logitech Squeezebox Controller App for Iphone

2017-09-01 Thread slimhase

I like this old App a lot - it is fast, its look & feel is the same as
my duet controller and Jivelite...
The only thing I noticed is that the Cover-Art is not showing in the now
playing screen. (It does show the Art-Work in the play-list view.)
-> Is that a known bug of that App, or is it something which has to do
w/ my setup (so there is a chance I can fix it)?

My setup:
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.1 - 1503129892 @ Sat Aug 19 09:29:31
UTC 2017
Betriebssystem: Debian - DE - utf8
Plattformarchitektur: i686-linux
Perl-Version: 5.18.2 - i686-linux-gnu-thread-multi-64int
Audio::Scan: 0.95
Datenbankversion: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)

I am running LMS w/ -nomysqueezebox parameter

P.S. I know there are other very good apps available - I have some of
those (including Android Squeezecommander, Orangesqueeze, ...).
But I like the original one on my Iphone. Also, I have an old I phone
(4s), so future 64bit migration is not a concern for me
