hmmm... enable player logging in settings - advanced and see what turns
up in the log.
You do have LAME.exe installed don't you? (it's not part of the install
itself IIRC)

version are you running now? Can you do a factory reset of the sb2
player then a Xilinx reset then try again?

I'm not sure why you want to have PC audio playing at the same time as
your SB... but anyway, check out the WAVINPUT plugin. That lets you play
PC audio over the SB. That does SOME of what you want I think.

If you have access to a multimeter, check that there is no voltage
differential between the caseworks of the pre and power. Also check that
the resistance is zero.
If your setup is susceptible to RFI you might want to try replacing the
switched PSU of the SB with a linear one.

However, if this was the cause you would expect it to repeatable - the
sam track would skip again...
Anyway, rather than speculation, turn on logging and see what you get.

I think you will find that on-the-fly upsampling via SOX is as good as

Normally a bump as you describe implies a low level of DC on the
outputs. This should be being blocked by output capacitors in the SB.

Already done this, tried some good quality cinch strips, and then
several thin cables, the sort of cables you get with new gear. It
doesn't

Almost certainly you need to reset the Xilinx chip. If I had a TP I
would do this as a matter of course after a firmware upgrade. For
whatever reason, the other products don't seem to NEED such a reset
99.9% of the time...

including one-shot performers and browse albums if want to see only
proper albums with comps under various artists

Can I suggest you check your files again now you have recopied them from
your backup. You may still have issues with CRC.

7.3.2 was fine for me (on XP) and 7.4 is pretty stable too!
I think you will find it's mostly your environment unfortunately.
Can I suggest you do a complete uninstall, cache deletes etc reboot and
then install from scratch?

Sound quality pretty much identical according to all reports. Receiver
MIGHT have slightly less noise (no VFD display) but this will be
extremely marginal at best.

Linn have always been mediocre-to-awful at UI design...(but
good-to-excellent at audio)
If I had a Linn DS, I'd be very happy driving it with a Controller or
even the web gui+SB! - I'd be VERY frustrated driving it with the Linn
software/remote.

are you playing a flac or a wav file? ... the changes I advised ONLY
work for FLACS AFAIK. Wav's get converted to 320kbs mp3s...

. This is often shortened to 16/44.1 or
44.1/16).
So when you rip a CD it will create files on your PC at that resolution
unless you tell the ripping to do something different - which 99.9% of
the time you would NOT want to do!

to Mp3. Most people only use this for remote streaming to a player
off of their home network.
I stand corrected! - I can't hear any obvious differences between the
settings on a casual check.

quality and I've tried to
explain that it doesn't. That is completely different to saying that
running too much software on the server PC might bring the system to
it's knees performance-wise.
