Re: [slim] FM Radio

2022-02-23 Thread Jeff07971

I have a Pi 3B v1.2 with 2 SDR radios on it.

One is a dump1090 ADS-B receiver where decoding and tuning are done by
the Pi.

The other uses rtl-tcp which sends data to SDR# on my windows desktop
for decoding.

As you can see its fairly heavy on CPU but this is a Pi 3 !

You may want to check out rtl_fm for command line tune/fm decode

No offence taken Kidstypike, in fact I was trying to remember who it was
I helped and whether there was any part of it on the forum !

19Lee79 as you say seems to have IR+JL+justboom, he has been looking at
the instructions for creating a custom keytable.
I take it that he has created the custom keytables and is having trouble
uploading them (The commands he keeps posting are use via SSH
instructions)
I think that English is not His/Her first language so I may be
misinterpreting what they are saying.

19Lee79 has also posted they have a Flirc and tried to use lirc to run
that, I explained (albeit briefly) lirc is not needed with Flirc

There is no easy way that I am aware of to get a custom keytables file
without SSH and command line operations so Flirc would be they're only
real option

I'm sorry I do not understand what you're trying to say.

You keep saying you do not use SSH but then show command line entries.

Get your custom jivelite keytables, go to the page on the Web

Hi Cliveb

Glad you got it working, if by a long winded process !

However

I don't think that this can be the case, as when testing for you I did
not change the output device at all !

BUT

I ALWAYS resize the fs to full sdcard capacity before doing anything

Maybe its ANY operation rather than changing O/P device

I'll give it a try when I get a minute and report back

Apart from setting the GPIO and the Active State (High or Low) in the

power down after a set time on pause or stop.

Hi Cliveb,

You don't actually have to do any scripting to do this its built into
pCP (SL actually)

I use Powerswitch3 for my SB3's and pCP built in for my pCP based
players

All drive 16A SSR's directly

This is far from simple its not just the ovpn files that will need
attention. It will be about routing and DNAT/SNAT

The PIA VPN will be sending and receiving data via piping it through to
the VPN provider, your network's gateway address will route the traffic
to the VPN. However the VPN Server will be needing access to the WAN
address on the router and will want to route outgoing traffic from the
LMS server also via the the gateway address.

I havent thought about it deeply but look like you'd need to do at least
some DNAT/SNAT and static routes

Drawing a diagram with ports, ip addresses and routes would probably
help you figure it out

29/20 Ie 10^1.45 = 28.18 odd

Had exactly the same experience with some small (Pi2/3) heatsinks that
had "Genuine 3M heat tranfer tape"
Does not sound like the stuff you had though as it was very thin (Like
sellotape almost) but was BAD at heat transfer

Got some HY910 thermal adhesive from ebay for a couple of quid, works
much better

I think that there should not really be so much resistance to using the
Pi4, cooling in enclosed spaces is somewhat of an issue but the benefit
of running a 4 may outweigh this. Its really just another thing to think
about, like do I have enough disk space.

Regarding the underclocking I think this is a good idea though finding
the balance may be time consuming but ultimatey usefull

Untill then a fan if probably the way to go as you and Paul- have found

Chill,

Actually looks like quite a good fit.

I think its becoming clear that without "active" cooling a Pi4 working
hard (and not throttling) in a closed case is going to be difficult !

Has the ambient temperature changed while the measurement is being made
?

Do not forget that heatsink "effeciency" is above ambient IE if ambient
goes down 10 C so will the chip temp all things being equal.

THe chip temperature will be an absolute temperature

Its a pity that Raspberry did not flip the processor to the "underside"
of the board, then you could have good cooling AND a HAT !
>From reports I've read the board itself is a significant part of the
thermal design, maybe they'll change to an aluminium substrate though
this is an expensive option
Hopefully someone will come up with somthing, maybe a CNC ali plate
might work well IE Between the Pi and Hat to allow a heatsink of
resonable size to be fitted

You copy using Windows (File) Explorer NOT Internet Explorer

In Windows (File) Explorer location bar type "\\IPADDRESS" (See

Daphile will not be the same but you get the idea

Funny enough I was playing with Daphile today !

It might possilbly be a better "Fit" for you.

It installs quickly and easily and works wll enough though I wont be
changing I was looking for a distro that I can use as a dedicated
auto-ripper.

The good point for you is a pre setup SaMBa share (Windows networking)
so you can transfer your music easily from PC and Mac

I THINK Daphile uses the updates from standard LMS repo, though not sure
about plugins as I didn't play with it for long

This is becuase of the defualt install of Centos, my very basic
instructions were aimed at people who knew enough about Linux to get a
basic system running to their requirements.

Anyway not too much of a problem !

The defualt install has created the "/" as a 50G drive and you have used
the /media directory which is under "/"
We will need to move the music to the larger partition.

Can you post the output of "mount | grep mapper" so we can see where
the 413G partiton is mounted ? I suspect its mounted as "/home"

FYI I usually do a manual (without LVM) partitioning on install with :-

20G reserved for /
2x Memory for swap
The remaning I mount as /storage

Sorry, forgot that you were working from my instructions !!

No that should be fine with the firewall setup like that

The "4m[terminated]" is a known problem. I don't know why but all is
fine with VM's but not with physical machines

Yes Networking is not enabled by defualt, you can change this with nmtui
at the prompt.

You will need to disable the firewall (firewalld) in order to access
anything but ssh (or create rules, I have these if you need them)

You may want to disable SElinux untill you have it working, it can
sometimes get in the way.

Personally I would get the system up and running on the HDD, if all goes
well this would take less than an hour I would guess

Once all is working order the SSD and repeat with the SSD taking the
place of the HDD

On the subject of distro's I use both debian and Centos theres not much
to choose between them but I know Centos a little better

Excellent !

I know that Centos 7 will run on a D510 just in case you decide to go
that way.

I would reccommend a minimal install whichever distro you choose as the
Tranquil will probably be quite light on RAM

The SSD option would be a good idea as you have a relatively small
collection and a 250GB SSD is fairly cheap
I would suggest you use the HDD to start with to make sure everything
works OK before spending on a SSD

Good Luck

Yes that is correct, you'd have to identify the processor etc in the
Tranquil as some were 32bit only and some Linux distros now (Including
my favourite Centos) are 64 bit

As long as you can find a decent distro I think it will make a good LMS

A NAS, a Linux machine, Raspberry Pi (With piCorePlayer) Any other
device that can run LMS !

I would never run LMS on a desktop OS IMHO
I run a "Full Linux" machine and very rarely have problems but if you're
not Linux literate it could be challenging
Some NAS's run LMS well I'm sure you'll get someone replying with

Raspberry Pi with external USB HDD will do quite well and you'll be well

I did look at the script and rewrote to use the keyboard event if no
touch was detected but even though VNC run up and I could view it I
could not control.
I'll spend a little more time have another go at some point.

So it would be /usr/local/slimserver/Plugins

But this directory on pCP might not survive a reboot (as I said I only
use this plugin on Centos)

I don't think PowerSwitchII was ever availible on the plugins page
without manually installing.

I use the later version https://github.com/motske/PowerSwitch3 but only
on Centos7 so can't help with the pCP install

It would be nice to have PowerSwitch3 included on the plugins page !

You basically accused a most dedicated developer of profiteering and not

I simply made the point that buying an ipad for hundreds and then not
paying a small amount for a good app is stupid and I purposely did not
make it a "reply" to you.

When using a VPN is it possible to have a optional lock to only control

The "main" Caps in a SMPSU are on both sides of the transformer,
smoothing and storage @ 320Vdc on the primary and smoothing and storage
@ 5Vdc on the secondary.

This sounds like the Capacitor plauge
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

The main caps in a SMPSU are quite highly stressed and fail due to the
above.
If the power is left on the problem goes unoticed untill the power fails
then the PSU will not start up (or blows the fuse or switching
transistor)
This has happened to me many times, one notable one was a stack of 4
Dell network switches all running fine untill a turn off for
maintenance. All 4 switched failed to turn back on.
I replaced the caps in the PSU's and all were fine again (and still are
after another 5 years)

Hifiberry seem to recomend 18v for both 4 and 8 ohm speakers (18w/ch for
both 4&8 Ohm) which is unusual, but maybe hifiberries thermal
dissapption is compromised somehow.

Don't get me wrong, I like and use Class D(T) amps a lot and they're
very good but I use larger ones (Hifimediy T2's mostly)

Still think this is a downgrade though but if size is the reason

Real Watts = CONTINUOUS RMS Watts

See "Measurements"

You'd be mad to replace the Azur with the AMP+

I thought I'd clear that up for Ralphy et al, I think they thought you
were using Jivelite.

I'm not sure if the controls are the same for Jivelite and Squeezelite
(I only use Jivelite for my players)

Hopefully they will clarify

Squeezelite is the player
Jivelite is the User Interface Screen (UI)
PiCoreplayer is the "System"

Have you got a screen attached ?

Thanks for that, Yes I can confirm that the accessing IP address is that
assigned by the VPN to the remote device (In my case this is NATted to a
fixed IP)

I don't think d6jg will have a problem, I think he uses the same system
as I.
I tried accessing via both IPSEC and SSL (To iPhone with iPeng ) and had
no problems playing etc though I have not tried "settings"
I could not work out how to see the accessing IP in the log ( I tried
Plugin:cli @ info level logging ) though.

Hi Michael

No I don't think it'll be a problem for me, my LMS is via a HTTPs
(pasworded) proxy or by VPN only so don't even need to turn the password
on

Thanks anyway
