Re: [slim] Can iPeng or Squeezepad integrate/control MOG or Spotify?
So the NAD D7050 arrived and I've got it working a few ways: - with the iPad Air plugged into the D7050 Dock via stock lightning connector. LMS is installed on a win7 PC. This is the only way that I've been able to play 24/96 material (at least I'm hearing the tracks; I don't know if it's down sampling) - using DLNA I'm controlling playback via JRemote on my iPad with a win7 PC with JRiver installed to manage the music library. This has been the most convenient method, but it doesn't want to play 24/96 material. Now for my question related to iPeng-player. I bought this in-app purchase but can't find it in the iPeng app or LMS. Where do I find it, and how do I configure it? Ultimately, I want to use the iPad as the player so that I can stream tracks to the D7050 which is capable of AirPlay. What I didn't realize was that I needed to tap the AirPlay button on the iPad volume panel to get music to play on the NAD instead of the iPad. I got it working using iPeng (streaming to the NAD D7050 using AirPlay)! Yet, it wants to skip forward 2 tracks midway through a song (about 30 secs into the track). Recall that LMS and my music library are 100 feet away on a win7 PC. It seems to play all the way through the 2nd track once it skips, but this happened on 4 of 5 albums and select a track. My understanding is that iPad Air (iOS 7) does not support AptX Bluetooth. Is hardware required, or does iPeng 7 Player support AptX? Ultimately, I plan to stream to my iPad Air from server via LMS/iPeng and then stream from iPad to receiver via AirPlay and/or aptX (the receiver supports both). RioTubes wrote: My understanding is that iPad Air (iOS 7) does not support AptX Bluetooth. Is hardware required, or does iPeng 7 Player support AptX? Neither. The Bluetooth stack needs to support the codec. Apps can't change Apple's Bluetooth stack so if iPad doesn't support the codec, you can't use it. Ultimately, I plan to stream to my iPad Air from server via LMS/iPeng and then stream from iPad to receiver via AirPlay and/or aptX (the receiver supports both). Don't know about AptX but please be aware that AirPlay only supports 16/48 so if you use AirPlay, iOS will downsample your stream to that (the 16 bit don't hurt as much as with other transmissions because volume will be sent separately). The stream uses lossless ALAC. Regarding the exchange above regarding the dock, my understanding is that my receiver (NAD D 7050) is capable of 24/96 via its USB dock (type A USB connector) from iPad Air. Well, the iPad doesn't have a USB port so you need a Lightning-to-USB adaptor. Also, the iPad has to act as a USB host. Lightning generally supports that but whether your DAC is compatible is something I don't know. AFAIK the DAC needs to be part of Apple's MFI program for that. With the old iPads you could use the CCK but I am not sure that will still work to full resolution (it might, I just don't know) since you would put up quite an adapter stack (Lightning-30-Pin-USB). --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 7, the Universal App for iOS 7* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100641 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

16/48 is the maximum, everything having higher sample rates will get downsampled. 16/44.1 will be left as it is. That said If your AirPlay receiver is an AppleTV which only has an HDMI output which only supports 16/48, the 44.1 material will obviously get upsampled by the AppleTV.

The NAD D 7050 came out this past summer 2013. Although it's on back order, I think the iDevice dock will be one way to stream 24/96. It also is UPnP compliant. But the UPnP controllers are no iPeng! So I will use iPeng with AirPlay or the dock for 16/44 material, which is 99% of my library. Re: [slim] Can iPeng or Squeezepad integrate/control MOG or Spotify?
What do you mean by input? Both play 24/96, I can't tell what SqueezePad actually outputs but iPent will also output 24/96 through USB if (and that's a big if) your dock supports it. With old iPads you had to use the Camera Connection Kit for this, with new ones you need CCK or a dock that natively supports the Lightning connector. I've seen a few (Zeppelin Air seem to be one, for example) recently but they are still pretty rare. Old docks will make the iPad (not iPeng) downsample the audio to 24/48.

You can queue up albums and songs just as you like. If you asked this question on facebook, too, then the additional answer would be that yes, also streaming on from the iPad through AirPlay will work. The only limitations are that a) The playback functionality is an additional In-App-Purchase (in both iPeng and SqueezePad) b) For Spotify you will need the 3rd Party Spotify plugin for LMS. It can be installed through Settings-Plugins in the LMS web interface and has a long support thread here under 3rd party software. Also, don't expect magic if it comes to synchronization with Squeezeboxes if you use AirPlay. I believe iPeng 7 is a universal app, so if you're running iOS 7 that's the way to go. It's great as a controller and even better when you add the in-app playback to turn it into a full fledged Squeezebox player.
