I've been a user since I brought one of the original SliMP3s somewhere
around 20 years ago, then moved to the Classic/SB3 and currently have a
pair of Touches and a SB Radio. All are working just fine (though I have
expanded with a pair of Raspberry Pi players with HiFiBerry HATs.)

I just found the 2009 (!) receipt for my duet system, which is still
serving the home well...I have become so attached to the platform, and
the support of this forum has been wonderful.

Logitech Media Server Version:
The way I see it, there are numerous advantages of the lms plateform
over competitors that a commercial company could use in its products.
For one, there is the squeezelite player which could be installed in any
connected radio. Making them compatible with lms. In the past, weve
seen many

They have just released a 400USD Bluetooth speaker - under their
Ultimate Ears brand (where Squeezebox hardware finished) so they do not
limit themselves to cheap computer hardware.

Any chance that Logitech would un-pull the plug? By that I mean bring
out new streaming radios based on the Squeezebox technology?
Radio streaming is much more mainstream than it was when the
Squeezeboxes were produced and the idea of paying a monthly subscription
fee for the online service is

Correct, up to a point. It won't halt the minute Logitech shuts down the
servers, but it may still affect you in a longer run.
Considering that the Squeezeboxes were always a bit of

Correct.
Easy way to verify it ... disconnect your broadband connection and then
restart LMS.
You will probably get a few errors reported in the logs but it will
work.

Can I ask a naive question. For someone like me who just uses my
squeezeboxes and LMS to stream music from a local server, isn't this
setup impervious so long as I have the hardware and LMS software plus
relevant plugins such as Airplay to feed my Liberatone Zipp. I
understand as technology and

Absolutely. I would hope if Logitech plans to pull the plug, they could
give us a month to transition. That would be more than enough time to
migrate.

Good to know. Not the worst, though there are so many free BB scripts
out there.
If fit hit the shan and somebody got a database dump
Logitech has already pulled the plug, for the most part.
The biggest danger to the ecosystem will always be the loss of plugin
development. The Spotifys etc of the world keep evolving their API, and
eventually the ecosystem would be left only being able to play our home
libraries in a very

yes, wayback machine is static snapshots of webpages at a certain point

True, the greatest lost would be the community of users here. Hopefully

I have been using a Squeezebox Touch for 8 years and have been hearing
fears of it becoming obsolete for many years. I figured I would have had
to replace it by now due to lack of support. But now I am enjoying it
more than I ever have due to new plugins that continue to appear from
developers

This topic appears every few years - people agonise over "what if" and
often nothing stops.
People worried that players would die - then Pi's appeared and now also
SqueezeAMP
People worried about no new plugins/development as many "veteran"
developers withdrew - new guys stepped up.

Should we be thinking about attempting something similar?
This question has come up ever since Logitech announced the end of SB
years ago. I'd wait until the real end has been announced. Unless you're
willing to spend a lot of time, effort and ressources on moving elsewhere.

Perhaps the most troubling part of this is that these forums will
disappear when Logitech pulls
As far as I've understood, LMS originated in Logitech hardware that is
no longer produced, and using LMS is still dependant on Logitech itself
keeping certain services running. For example, I understand e.g Tidal
support is dependant on Logitech maintaining a license agreement with
Tidal.

Hi
I just discovered LMS a few months ago and I'm extremely happy with it,
far better (with the inclusion of all the streaming services as well as
local files) than all the other music servers I've used.
As far as I've understood, LMS originated in Logitech hardware that is
