I've had similar good luck with homeplugs for several years.

At my weekend cabin, I have a 3 homeplugs in use. One is connected near
main router/modem. 2nd is connected to a router in use as a switch only
(not assigning IP addresses). To this switch/router, I've attached a
vortexbox server running LMS and holding my music files and a TOUCH.
the 3rd homeplug is connected to a BOOM in my bedroom. The wiring in
this house is about 17 years old, and the 3 homeplugs are probably no
more than 15 feet away from each other (house is very small). I plan on
eventually running ethernet cable here, but haven't had the need yet.

If your Lyngdorf amp is one with "Chromecast built-in", you might give
the LMS Chromecast plugin a try. From what I've read, it can support up
to 24/192. Can't guarantee gapless or ReplayGain support with these
plugins, though, so you'll have to test that.

Honestly, the best player for LMS is a Squeezebox or squeezelite-enabled
device. If you have no other Squeezebox players to support, I'd suggest
switching to a full-featured DLNA server like MinimServer and using the
Lyngdorf controller app.

Re: [slim] This is driving me nuts

2020-04-16 Thread liffy99

Don’t think the homeplugs are an issue. The wired connection is solely
for being able to calbrate and operate the amp from my Ipad. Music
playback is wireless.
Anyway, I switched off the UPNP plugin in LMS and reverted to playback
via Airplay - and everything works as it used to - single touch
selection and playback of individual tracks, next track in playlist
plays automatically, progress slider allows me to fast forward within a
track and still plays the next track when it reaches the end.
So seems like the UPNP side of things is the problem. Someone said that
LMS does not work well with UPNP (although it was fine until a few weeks
ago) and suggested I try a different UPNP application to the current
Plugin. But I’ve no idea how to do that. I looked at SourceForge but was
just drowned in a mass of technicality.
I would like to use UPNP rather than Airplay as I have a few 24/96
tracks to play. Can anyone help ?

Netgear Orbi RBK50/RBS50. However I use it as an "single" AP - DHCP,
DNS and routing done by ISP equipment.

Good to hear your mesh network has been solid. What brand/model do you
use?

If no other option, another technology similar to Homeplug is "Ethernet
Over Coax". EoC hardware is about twice the price of Homeplug, but
works in the same manner using the existing cable TV coax network. If
the router and target player are both near a cable TV outlet, this might
be worth a try.

I had many generations from different vendors and they all behaved oddly
from time to time (most use the same chipset). Now reduced down to one
pair for a connection and use mesh wifi instead. This has been most
stable.

My house is fairly small which probably helps and I only have three
homeplugs. One connects to my Raspberry Pi LMS server and another to a
Virginmedia TV box which are both upstairs and the router is downstairs
with another Virginmedia TV box wired to the router. I had a strange
issue where the Virginmedia boxes could see each other if the Raspberry
Pi was not connected but lost contact with each other when the Pi was
connected. This turned out to be an issue with the Virginmedia Hub 3
combined modem and router. Putting the Hub 3 in modem mode and adding a
standalone router fixed the issue.

It really depends how many you have and how far they are and how many
noise/black-out generators you have at your home. In my case, they
really have always screwed up any real-time sensitive traffic like RTP.
Anything that can't buffer will have these black-out periods from time

+1 on homeplugs --- I started out with 2 netgear devices and was an
inconsistent experience ... if ethernet cable is not possible, you can
try another outlet for homeplug

I agree. They tend to start off working ok then seem to degrade badly
with exactly these symptoms.
I ended up wiring key rooms to remove home plugs from the equation and

Wired, albeit via homeplugs.
I have always used LMS. Used to have a SB Classic and a Touch, them
Raspberry Pi, but now a Lyngdorf amp which as built in UPNP and Airplay
support.

Did try Audirvana as the server and liked the sound and Qobuz
integration but the Ipad controller interface was very poor. So will
wait to see if they improve it.

Is your connection to the amp wired or wireless? If the latter, I'd
check for network issues. Try another wireless channel. If you're
using a mesh router, those are known to be problematic with LMS.

Are you using LMS as your server because you have other Squeezeboxes?
