Charlie,
We have an eMac you can have, but I don't know if it will serve your needs.
It's just the wrong side of being able to run the OS version needed to run
the Safari version that supports AJAX, so we had to upgrade our machine.
Might need to borrow it back for an hour or two if we ever need
Thanks, Adam, really. That's very kind. I did end up buying the mini last
night just before the meeting. I'll see how that goes. :-) Thanks again very
much.

Charlie,
I don't have one to offer, but I will offer up that you can get the
best deals by buying a refurbished Mac from the Apple Store online.
Save a few hundred bucks to put into RAM, drives, etc.

Thanks, Steven. Those are indeed some good deals. Bummer. I've pretty much
committed to the guy selling me the mini at this point. I realize it's not
up to the specs of those capabilities you describe, so I may regret it. But
hey, I can resell it to someone and move up when I'm ready. Thanks for
Thanks, Dean, but I could have sworn I mentioned that I'd checked there
already. I see now I did not (but had in some private notes with others).
Anyway, thanks for the hint for others.
Sadly, the store had no substantial discounts when I checked a couple of
times over the last 2 days. Well,
Or you can keep it and hook it up to your TV as a media center. That's what I
use my Mac Mini for. It's awesome.

Fair enough. You also have to be willing to wait for a good deal on a

curious, isn't it fairly easy to install OS X on a typical intel machine

Good thinking. I do already have a windows media center in a media room, and
a DVR in another. But sure, why not yet one more place to record more shows
than I could ever watch? :-) Seriously, though, it is indeed something to
think about.
So, where with Windows you need to have the Media
VMWare doesn't support it. Parallels supports OS X server on Apple

I tend to just use Joost for free streamed stuff. And now ABC is doing LOST
episodes in streaming HD the day after the episode airs. I'll also torrent

Well thanks very much, Derrick. Yes, my intended use would have no load at
