Firefox 57 here, so yours may vary. Visit about:support and look at the Graphics section. (Actually, peruse all of it for interest.) The Decision Log at the end will tell you what it has decided to use. Check layers.acceleration.force-enabled in about:config. If it's false, the default, then try true. You may have to restart the browser for it to take effect. Examine the Decision Log again, and try a HTML5 video regardless. Note, I think there's the potential for security holes through WebGL before FF 57, and that's why it defaults to false. > Openshot crashing after a few minutes, using v2.4.1. Is that an Ubuntu package? I'm having trouble finding that version tied to a release. Terry's point about an old $HOME and all its settings causing problems is a good one. Create a new `pleb' user and log in as that instead. See if any of the problems "go away". Re: [Dorset] General collection of problems on Ubuntu
Hi Rafi How much memory and what graphic card are you using? Looking at your issues, there maybe one issue or there maybe many, the ISO you downloaded did you run a checksum on it to ensure it was a good download? I would be tempted to wipe the hard disk (saving any data you need first), format the hard disk and do the install again (with a verified download), at least then you are starting with the solid base. Might be worth downloading memcheck as well (bootable cd) and let it test your memory to get that out the way. Only happened once though, restart fixed it. I'm looking for an Ubuntu Tweaks alternative, as I've seen it's been discontinued. I'm also missing an anti-virus, any recommendations? Thanks for your help and good advice. Rafi, I don't use Ubuntu (I use Kubuntu) so a lot of my experience is likely to be irrelevant to your problem. However: > The issues I'm having the most are: > > - Icons of apps showing as a question mark. > > - Terminal windows became sub-windows of Mozilla Thunderbird, even > when Thunderbird was closed. Only happened once though, restart fixed it. Did you install this as a clean system or as a replacement for your old (Mint I think) installation? If so, was it a *really* clean install or did you have your /home directory on a separate partition and point Ubuntu to it? I've had issues in the past where I tried re-use my home partition and 'inherited' some nasty problems. It shouldn't happen if you do a clean install of a later version of the same distro, but could well be problematic if you are installing Ubuntu over a Mint system. > I'm looking for an Ubuntu Tweaks alternative, as I've seen it's been > discontinued. I'm also missing an anti-virus, any recommendations? I can't help on Ubuntu Tweaks, but I generally use ClamAV for antivirus. Of course there are few Linux viruses as yet, but it does help to avoid passing on viruses to Windows users :-) -- Terry Coles -- Next meeting: Bournemouth, Tuesday, 2017-12-05 20:00 Meets, Mailing list, IRC, LinkedIn, ... http://dorset.lug.org.uk/ New thread: mailto:dorset@mailman.lug.org.uk / CHECK IF YOU'RE REPLYING Reporting bugs well: http://goo.gl/4Xue / TO THE LIST OR THE AUTHOR
