Hi
My R-4A project is puzzling
me. It sounds ok, but when I
go through the adjustment
procedure I'm puzzled. The
book says thet the tuning of
T7 andT10 is quite broad. For
sure, I can't get a maximum at
all. And the notch will not
work. There is absolutely no
response to any setting of the
Hi all
I promised to let you know
what happened to my R-4A
(13-tube). I made the pcb for
the xtal oscillator that was
missing (fiberglass, not
phenolic , I'm not religious),
collected the parts including
a 2N3904 as a replacement for
the 2N3394. After some
experimenting, I ended up
making
Hi all
My R-4A I was telling you
about has the old type
calibrator, with a 12BA6.
That was one of the changes to
the B, the introduction of
integrated circuits in the
calibrator. As I said, there
is no signal at all, I have
resoldered, changed the tube
and the trimmer cap and still
there is
Hi all, and tnx for tips.
I have tried to make the L4 on
a 3/8 resistor (120k), and
get signal through on 80 m.
The oscillator will not
oscillate on the other
frequencies at all, and the
thing is very sensitive to
stray capacitances. So
something is wrong. I will
try to measure the L4 from
Hi all
I am i the process of
restoring a R-4A s/n 3092 I
got the other day. his
particular receiver have been
used as parts radio at one
time, and the part that has
been removed is the crystal
oscillator board. I have to
make a new one, and this task
shouldn't cause too much
trouble if it
Hello group.
Got hold of an old T-4X that
have been used for parts some
time ago. Thought the whole
project was impossible, but
looking more closely at it I
saw that it was quite nice.
The vfo was dismounted, but
there. The PA cage wasn't,
but I had a spare for an old
TR-4 lying around. The

Try to change the electrolytic caps, esp in the neg bias circuit.

Hi all
I'm sorry that I've offended some of you by trying to moderate. That won't
happen again.
Thanks to Thom for a great list. The Drakes interest me, and I have a few.
I will keep to the tech issues in the future.

Hi group
The L-4 amp came standard with 3-400Z tubes and chimneys.
The L-4B came with 3-500Z tubes and chimneys. In addition the -B included
Hi group
Thanks for the answers, but I
didnt gett he answer I wanted, though. Although inspired by the prices of Sylvania 6JB6, my interest moved to the more technical side of
the neutralizing process. The
neutralizing is described in the compendium from Eimac
Hi group
I have tried different
substitute PA-tubes for my T-4XB, because the 6JB6s are becoming quite
expensive here in Norway.
The types tried are 6KM6,
6JF6 and 6GJ5. But there seems to be a
problem with neutralization of certain tubes.
Specifically the 6KM6 and 6JF6. The 6GJ5s

I've got a NIB FS-4 with all the original cables, stickers etc. The inj.
cable is an unmarked grey cable, probably an audio cable with a RCA/phono

Thanks for good advice in this matter about the sidetone.
I tried a 32mmF cap across the C129, and then everything worked as it should. Next
step is to recap the whole line.

putting on air again. The xmtr works fine with one exception: When in CW-mode
There is a sidetone all the time. This sidetone should be grounded when the
key is up, but obviously isnt. The adjustment of the VOX delay is very
difficult. When
