Re: [DX-NEWS] DX Most Wanted Survey
The one I need is 7O Yemen! Hopefully this entity is activated soon for an extended period of time with equipment and ops to give the deserving a fair chance to both hear it and reach it and above all, THAT IT COUNTS FOR DXCC! Like thousands of others I have two cards from people who have been there. Both groups had permission to operate. Those permissions were valid while they operated and only after they ceased activitiy one of the operations was called invalid the other illegal. The paper of the invalid one was issued by the wrong office! Internal rivalries of two groups within the administration, probably a leftover from the times when there was a North- and a South-Yemen? How should a DXpeditioner know that the office he was dealing with was not authorized to issue a license to operate? The one later called illegal might have stepped on someones toes. In the end there seemed to be differences in the understanding of operating site and what should happen with the DXpedition material and other details. They finally ended up in a classic deadlock. The version of the story told by the DXpeditioners does not match the one told by the administration. But bear in mind that the administration in Yemen has changed since the DXpedition, with a whole set of different people in office now. 73 de Werner, HB9US -- Archives http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news@njdxa.org THE DXR is sponsored by the North Jersey DX Association. Re: [DX-NEWS] DX Most Wanted Survey
Folks, Just following up on the thread... I have changed the current survey so that it does not require you to rank all 100 countries. You can simply rank the ones that you want and click submit. I will leave the current survey open for sometime and the next generation one is already in the works based on feedback received. 73 - Paul K4UJ On 9/11/07, Jim Reisert AD1C [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: by K4UJ: http://dx-is.com/news/?p=100 -- Jim Reisert AD1C/0, [EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.ad1c.us -- Archives http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news@njdxa.org THE DXR is sponsored by the North Jersey DX Association. Re: [DX-NEWS] DX Most Wanted Survey
Yes, after you've entered the ones you don't have it gets more difficult and time-consuming. After ranking the ones I still need for all-time new ones, I went by the least band-modes and then just sort of guessed at the ease with which I could work them. I wonder if there will ever be another operation from Bouvet? There hasn't been a major one since I've been seriously DXing (1992 to now). 73, Zack W9SZ On Wed, 12 Sep 2007, Gerry Hohn wrote: Same problem, It wants you to rate all 100 or no submission. Re: [DX-NEWS] DX Most Wanted Survey
That was a one-man show, Chuck Brady (now SK). I never was able to hear him. I don't think he was anywhere near the level of an operation like VP8SSI, the two big 3Y0 operations, VK0IR, etc. He satisfied a few but by no means moved Bouvet much on the wanted list. 73, Zack W9SZ On Wed, 12 Sep 2007, Gerry Hohn wrote: I worked 3Y0C (Bouvet) in Jan 2001 Gerry VE6LB - Original Message - From: Zack Widup [EMAIL PROTECTED] I wonder if there will ever be another operation from Bouvet? Yes most of his operation was on phone and CW was on request, when I worked him on SSB on the only band I could, I felt ashamed to ask him for a CW qso because the pile up was getting bigger - thinking that I didn't want my call be thrown around on the clusters...now that's one I'm still missing..so much for thinking about the deserving ...to think that today many can care less about the rest in a pile uphow times have changed 73 de HK3CW Rob - Original Message - From: Gerry To: dx-news@njdxa.org Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 10:47 AM Subject: Re: [DX-NEWS] DX Most Wanted Survey Pretty good for a one man show Chuck Brady N4BQW, fresh from 3Y0C, showed some slides in Cape Town. RE: [DX-NEWS] DX Most Wanted Survey
I agree with Jim. I need only 3 and it would take me much more than 90 seconds to list another 98 in any meaningful order. The survey ought to permit entering only those which one needs. If I have worked them all except for one, then ranking the remaining 99 is just a meaningless exercise. Let someone who *needs* those other 99 rank them. To take what Jim said one step farther what good is a 'most wanted' if those of us who don't need much are making guesses just to fill up the survey. Re: [DX-NEWS] DX Most Wanted Survey
I think the problem here is how this survey was named. Like many of you I have been at this for more than 2 or 3 years and we all know what a 'Most Wanted' survey means. We have all probably filled out one or more of them. This type of survey should probably be called a 'Needs' survey instead of 'Wanted'. i.e. BS7 is(finally) no longer on my want list, but I still need it on more than band. 73 MAL N7MAL BULLHEAD CITY, AZ http://www.n7mal.com - Original Message - From: Joe Stepansky To: dx-news@njdxa.org Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 17:30 Subject: RE: [DX-NEWS] DX Most Wanted Survey But isn't that the entire point?
