Re: [DX-NEWS] DX Most Wanted Survey

2007-09-14 Thread Werner H. Berli

The one I need is 7O Yemen!

Hopefully this entity is activated soon for an extended period of time
with equipment and ops to give the deserving a fair chance to both hear
it and reach it and above all, THAT IT COUNTS FOR DXCC!

Like thousands of others I have two cards from people who have been
there. Both groups had permission to operate. Those permissions were
valid while they operated and only after they ceased activitiy one of
the operations was called invalid the other illegal.

The paper of the invalid one was issued by the wrong office! Internal
rivalries of two groups within the administration, probably a leftover
from the times when there was a North- and a South-Yemen? How should a
DXpeditioner know that the office he was dealing with was not authorized
to issue a license to operate?

The one later called illegal might have stepped on someones toes. In the
end there seemed to be differences in the understanding of operating
site and what should happen with the DXpedition material and other
details. They finally ended up in a classic deadlock. The version of the
story told by the DXpeditioners does not match the one told by the
administration. But bear in mind that the administration in Yemen has
changed since the DXpedition, with a whole set of different people in
office now.

Re: [DX-NEWS] DX Most Wanted Survey

2007-09-13 Thread Paul Pescitelli
Folks,

Just following up on the thread...

I have changed the current survey so that it does not require you to
rank all 100 countries. You can simply rank the ones that you want and
click submit.

I will leave the current survey open for sometime and the next
generation one is already in the works based on feedback received.

Yes, after you've entered the ones you don't have it gets more difficult
and time-consuming. After ranking the ones I still need for all-time new
ones, I went by the least band-modes and then just sort of guessed at the
ease with which I could work them.

I wonder if there will ever be another operation from Bouvet? There hasn't
been a major one since I've been seriously DXing (1992 to now).

That was a one-man show, Chuck Brady (now SK). I never was able to hear

no means moved Bouvet much on the wanted list.

Pretty good for a one man show

Chuck Brady N4BQW, fresh from 3Y0C, showed some slides in Cape Town. He'd

Re: [DX-NEWS] DX Most Wanted Survey

I think the problem here is how this survey was named. Like many of you I
have been at this for more than 2 or 3 years and we all know what a 'Most
Wanted' survey means. We have all probably filled out one or more of them.
This type of survey should probably be called a 'Needs' survey instead of
'Wanted'. i.e. BS7 is(finally) no longer on my want list, but I still need
it on more than band.
