Unfortunately, I share the exact same view as you do. Unfortunately x2,
it's even more of a headache in 14.04. It seems as if the icons were
switched to SVG to allow for better scaling on HiDPI screens, but at the
expense of the pips being much smaller than before and the highlights of
the icons
I see this too, the titlebar gets consistently placed behind the top
menu.
Not sure if it's unity or compiz, but I suspect the problem is in one of
those.

events seem to be either discarded (when not in the app surface) or consumed

I think I may have found the bug. On reading the SDK Alarms API
documentation, it specifies that if the daysOfTheWeek are specified,
then it will strive to trigger the alarms on that day. Let me illustrate
an example here to explain.

This bug is still present in last daily build of ubuntu 14.04 LTS
(16/04/2014). Is it planned to be solved before final release?
