[Dx4win] Error messages

2010-09-15 Thread Jo, YC0LOW
When keying CW, I sometimes had consecutive two error mesages as follows:

a. Could not open COM8 for keying:ie_Open - device already open.
and then:
b. Radio time out. Radio interface has been disabled

To restore it, I must re-open the software in my notebook. I am using
ver 8.04 with Windows 7 as the OS.
I used a homemade interface made of two pcs of transistors 2N and
two resistors 1.2k to my Icom 746Pro with cable USB 2.0 to serial that
has FTDI chipset.

Could someone help me to explain what would be the cause, please?

I also have noticed this but occasionally. I believe that usb to serial
driver is not loaded so quickly because our computer are not so fast. If you
wait for a while or open another program first, there will not be a problem.

2010-09-15 Thread Jo, YC0LOW
Hi Kostas and Dave,
Many thanks for your responses.

Dave, it happened only in the middle of the usage i.e: when the
programme is running. Booting up process is always going fine.
I never had problems whatsoever when using the software in my older
laptop which its OS was Windows XP.

If you are talking at start up; I have seen the same sort of behaviour on 2
 PC's (Win XP and WIN7).

IN the past (XP, older PC, earlier DX4Win) I also concluded that the driver
was not installed correctly on a newly booted PC.

I still see this sometimes on my new WIN 7 laptop.  I will install the driver
at start up, which I think will provide the answer; later today.

(BTW - I am using MicroHam USBII as my rig interface)

Re: [Dx4win] Error messages

2010-09-15 Thread Dave Sharred
Well Jo, I did wonder when it failed , from your 1st note! Kostas was referring
only to start up.

Does it only fail when you TX; in which case it could be RF that is causing the
interface to fail ? If so, you may need to filter/screen your leads?

Maybe ferrites or decoupling capacitors?

The other thing I have seen is failure when the PC is idle for a long time;
parts of your PC may go to sleep when not in use; if you think it could be this
then you would need to check your power save options. This happened on my
older XP PC.

Do you have transceive turned off on the 7600? That can cause problems with
collisions, and is not necessary when using DX4WIN.

I would like to open up the rig file for the Icom 7600_500hz which is a
 .rig
extension but I cannot open it.I know in older DX4WIN versions I could open
up the various rig files but since they have been changed to .rig I can't
 open them.

They're just text files.
Assuming Windows 7: Right click, then choose Open. Pick Select a program
from a list of installed programs then click OK.
Choose Notepad, click OK, and Bob's your Uncle.

Re: [Dx4win] anyone help with rig files?

2010-09-15 Thread Mel
You can't fix the problem in the rig file, you have to turn of CI-V
transceive in the radio's interface. DX4Win polls... that's the way it's
written.

You can't normally open a .rig file by clicking on it unless you set up
a file association between notepad and the .rig extension. Just open
Notepad then open the file.

Or you can rename the .rig file to .txt and when you are finished
editing it, rename it to .rig

I've done some research on this and think I understand the problem.
The PW-1 requires CI-V transcieve to be turned on. It should be able to
detect the DX4WIN polling and do the right thing, but George may be trying
to follow the documentation.

If you turn off transcieve, the amp will follow the rig only when DX4WIN is
polling. That may be OK, but it's an additional hassle. When you turn off
the rig, DX4WIN will time it out and stop polling. That means that your amp
won't tune properly until you start up DX4WIN. Bad combination.
