Hello Jeff,
Have you tried measuring the voltage at the wiper terminal of R1 (Control
Board) or RP6 pins 4/5? These points are all connected together along with
U2 pin 5, so you should get the same voltage +- a couple of millivolts at
each of these points. The voltage at all these points

If your K2 is suffering from this issue, the solution is to
modify the KSB2 module. Unfortunately, I can't find the
details offhand.
I think it must be this link that applies:

Jeff,
Try measuring the voltage at U2 pin 5 again making certain your probes both
have good contact.
The voltage at U2 pin 5 is determined only by a resistor network - if it is
still quite low, check the voltage on the 8A line - the output of regulator
U4 (upper leg) - it should be 8 volts.
If
Don I worked with him last night, he has it all going it was a cold solder

I have for sale a Drake WM-4 wattmeter. Sensor can be removed from case.
Make offer.
I apologize if Elecraft is not the right place to list this, but I
figure some K2 owner can use it.

New Year's Eve is traditionally is a time to review the year past, and wax
nostalgic. For some years amateur radio ops have dusted off their straight key
and put it on the air. But what about other, perhaps more challenging antique
keys of historic and nostalgic value?
Semi-automatic keys,
I have used the un-module rework eliminators available from Ken and Gary
for the construction of a new K2.
When I first got started, the whole thing seemed very complicated, but it
really isn't.
In my opinion, they cost more work than they save, because currently it's
left to you to
I'm glad the K2 firmware allows for manual and automatic keying ... my Palm
Mini-Paddles developed a problem and I had to switch to straight keying on the
K2, and then turned the palm paddle on its side and used it as a straight
key... boy am I ever spoiled - almost forgot how to send good code
I'll be there with my Speed-X key, Drake 2-NT and 2-B. I'll be rock-bound
since I haven't been able to find a VFO that costs less than the transmitter
itself, but I did it 48 years ago, I can stand it for one night.
Hmmm, I wonder if I could throttle back the K1 and use it as a 40m VFO. In

Thanks to all the folks who offered their advice and experience with using

1) On balance it seems like it would be a net

The K1 spec is for drift less that 200 Hz after a 5 minute warmup.
The fact that the K1 does not use a DDS vfo is not a 'design problem'
as was stated...

Yes, it was appropriately named! My Elmer, Art W6RMK, had one that he

You are quite right, Fred, New Year's Eve is Straight Key Night. It used
to run just a few hours New Year's Eve for North American Hams but was
lengthened by popular demand. Now it runs from to 2400 UTC 1 January
each year. And participation keeps growing, with last year resulting in the

I completely agree with you, Mike. A DDS in the K1 would be a step backwards
in performance. I'm willing to put up with the annoying step-wise DDS tuning
in my KX1 for those times when I want a grab-and-go rig on a bicycle trip or
hike. But most of the time, I much prefer the silky smooth tuning
Most of the parts on my bug are straight. Unfortunately, I can no
longer send readable CW with it (dits are easy to start, a bit hard to
stop, and my dahs are really long waiting for the electronics to make
them for me), but I do have a hand crafted real straight key made from
solid brass
I was sending CQ on 80 meter CW this morning when my K2/100 went on the
fritz. My SWR went
from 1:1 to 10:1 and the receive went away. At first I thought it was a
cable or my antenna but determined that neither was the case. The K2 part of
the radio hears just fine with the KPA 100

Hello ..
I really wanted to buy an Elecraft automatic tuner.
The T1 is too low power capable and the KAT100 requires
the K2 KSIO or KPA100. (and requires a K2 anyway).
Without looking at the circuit, presumably it needs
frequency information from the K2 serial port rather
than a built in
I have often thought that a sufficiently enterprising individual could
take a T1 apart (or better yet, not put it together) with bigger parts
and make a higher-power tuner.
