In excellent condition, I bought it ( already assembled by another ham)
when I had a Yaesu radio to interface with my Ten Tec Hercules II
amplifier. I ended up selling the Yaesu radio before receiving the
unit and therefore I never used it and now have no need for it. I will
ship it for $125.00.
KX-1 # 1632 Fired up for the first time today and made an immediate
contact on 20. Sounds excellent. I especially like the keyer. It
seems oddly easier to send with than my other rigs; has a nice rhythm to
it. This kit went together very smoothly. I enjoyed building it so
much that I order
Hi Jerry,
The red light after end-of-tune-up indicates a high SWR. This would
normally not cause any problem with the T1 since it has bypass
capacitors on all of the microcontroller leads. But you could have a
case of extreme RFI; it could be caused by a ground loop, or even a VHF
or UHF osci
First a couple of weeks ago I managed to blow the diodes in the KAT-2 for

my T-1. Replaced the battery with a fresh one. Atempted to tune on 20m, get

In regard to Chris' comment about hearing strong stations 10 kHz away, I
found that NOT to be the case for me. I have 2 K2/100s with fairly recent
S/Ns (4687 and 5119) and the high signal mod. Conditions were SO good for
SS that even QRP signals were 20 over 9 and HP stations were regularly

So that makes 2 for and 2 against. Or maybe 1 for, 1 neutral and 2

Yesterday I leaned toward going with 2.6 KHz. Today, I'm thinking 2.4
KHz is a more general purpose compromise. The truth is, since I'm 95%
cw, the decision is pretty unimportant.
Then again, my 830s is 2.8 KHz IIRC, a

The K2 sidetone is associated with the transmit frequency.
Sounds like it would b
Yea, I guess I was thinking patching some other sidetone circuit into
the K2 in place of the existing sidetone circuit. It would not be easy.
In my case, I'm quite happy with the K2 sidetone (and I'm very picky!)
so I won't be cutting any traces in my rig!

I changed out Q7 and there was no change in voltage reading at Q7's

Hello all,
I've been busy working on my KX1 and I'd like to share some "tricks"
I've done to "Pimp-Out" my KX1.

Fred,
You speak of mods to the sidetone which indicate to me that you have an
older K2. If so, have you changed the sidetone source to U8 pin 4 (required
when adding the KIO2 or KPA100)? And have you installed the shielded
inductor that is included with the K2 A to B kit?

Really? I have an 830s (soon to be sold) and find the K2's side tone is
vastly superior to the 830. After one QSO on the 830, I'm wanting to
shut the rig off.
With my K2, the side tone sounds very similar to the tone of a received
CW signal. Not quite the same, but pretty close.

Tnx Don & Ron,
Well, I ordered the cap kit along with the SSB option so the real
question is whether or not to put 'em in. In my case, I have external
EQ and AF filtering so I can tailor the response of my mic to make it
narrow if I need to focus the energy for QRP work and I can roll off the

This may seem odd, but the main reason I have not yet sold my FT-1000MP in
favor of a second K2 is the CW monitoring. The CW side-tone in the K2 began
with a terrible sound. Various mods improved the sine wave attritubes, but
it remains relatively poor, harsh at the make and break, and in betw
Andrew,
Did you replace the 2 1N5711 diodes in the wattmeter section? Those are the
most likely components to be zapped with a surge. and if the wattmeter does
not properly indicate forward power, the K2 will attempt to transmit at full
power no matter where you set the power control.

Marty,
After you have done 5 or 6 of the KXB3080 installs and develop confidence
that you can do it right each and every time, then you can successfully
install a KXB3080 along with the initial KX1 build.
If this is the first time you are building a KX1 or the first time
installing a KXB3080, the

Hi Elecraft
I'm trying to get the Auto ATU going again after static zapp (at least that's
what I suspect happened). I've replaced the ATU PIC and once again it checks
out with the tests on p13 of the manual. I've also successfully set C55 to
give an indication of 000.
