While such a tuner might be fun to work with, it would unfortunately
have a very short life due to burnout of the relay contacts when
tuning at full power. There are also very high voltages created for

That sounds like a difficult task! Most folks here are still waiting
to get a K3 and you're already trying to make it smaller.

Matt,
Yes, and that is a military power supply...I would think they (Read US Gov't)
have the funds and brain power to do this...Good work Matt...Study that old K2
schematic and see what you can do that the "brain power" on the West coast
(Elecraft) haven't already or at least "figured out".
Thanks, Lyle.
So, to make sure I understand this, all of the measurments (dBV and AFV) are
done at the same point, at an AF level that is independent of the AF gain
control. Furthermore, by turning the AGC off I will have a relatively
linear relationship between the RF input level at the antenna

So, the question is: How much internal resolution of the S-meter reading do
we have in the K2 or K3 (or other Elecraft rigs, for that matter), that
could be read by a computer?
You can go one better with the K3. It has an internal dBV output which
is based on a true RMS voltmeter function. T
No Stewart, that is SO2R.
I use SO2V a lot here with the FT1kMP and that is what you will get with
the K3, but a lot better. With the MP you can only listen on the same
band because of the way the sub rx path is routed, although it is
possible on the higher bands The K3 has an independant sub
Hi all
The GH6UW expedition went well, and the K2 performed amazingly, but
on the last day something went wrong with it. The tuning now has gaps
where the RF disappears, and tuning just slightly over the gap the
signal recovers, but has pulse-like noise on it. I've tried a full
reset and

I am so glad the day has arrived that the rigs are small enough to fit in
the car and light enough to carry from the den to the family room. My SX101
and HT32B had to have their own Desk with shelves for the other equipment, and
the KW (now in the garage gathering dust) is in a 19 in. rack
I would like to use the K2 or the K3 occasionally as a "field strength
meter", for example take the rig a couple of km/miles away from my QTH and
record the signal strength from my home station. This would be useful in
antenna experiments.
So, the question is: How much internal resolution of the
After shutting off all the various circuits in my home, I discovered that the
noise is actually coming from the TV in our living room.
The existing dimmer switches are made by Lutron, and are not making much noise
after all.

Hi,
Hope this isn't a dumb question but I've never used a rig with a 2nd
receiver anyway...
So was wondering if when using the K3 with 2nd rx on a single antenna,
will I be able to listen to the 2nd receiver while transmitting on the
first vfo when full qsk is invoked...? eg while callin

Well, I don't currently 'do' Morse - I'm working on learning - I even
purchased an Elecraft HexKey to go along with my K3.
Having read about Ultimatic, it is the way I had assumed this worked - seems
more natural to me - so from someone who hopes to be using the K3 for CW
within 6 months - please

That's one of the funniest things I've read for a while. You are a
true "deconstructionist".
Perhaps people can bring their cars to you so you can take them
apart. Then you can charge them whatever you want to put them back
together again.
I truly hope you were not serious.

Karsten,
Are you measuring the current out of the power supply? Or is that the
current displayed on the K2?
If it is the current from your power supply, then I suggest that you
re-check the bias adjustment for the KPA100. See the KPA100 manual for
the procedure.
Yes, the additional 4 amp
KPA100 is aligned according to the manual.
When I key the K2/KPA100 up to 10 watts, current is up to 2 A. Looks normal.
Then I set the K2 to 11 watts (KPA100 engaded) Now current is approx. 6
Amps.
What are those 4 extra amps needed for?
When I set K2 to 20 watts, it consumes approx. 8 amps.

Tom,
Your connections all seem to be correct. It should make no difference
if the DE-9 cable is connected to the KAT100 or the KPA100 - try both.
If it works plugged into the KAT100 and not plugged to the KPA100, then
likely one of the miniature inductors in the KPA100 AUX I/O circuits is
