Greetngs Everyone,
I have decided to sell my K3/10 that I assembled as a kit. It has hardly
been used but I everything works as it is supposed to. Has never been
outside and always lived in a smoke free environment.
It has the following options:
1) KBPF3 - General Coverage RX Module
2)
I'm considering going to digital modes with the SignalLink USB gizmo.
Connecting via the headphone out or speaker out will kill the speaker audio.
I'd like to add an audio line out, not necessarily gain-controlled, but
capable of operating into the SignalLink's 600 ohm impedance. Might bring

Do you have the updated shield on that KPA100? Shield over the speaker
magnet and a narrow notch at the SO-239 jack and solder lugs to directly
connect the SO-239 jack to the outer surface of the shield. If you have
all those, there should be no change in the K2 behavior when

Your getting a firm spring with the upgrade kit was a kitting error.

to tune less than 3:1 on 40. Wayne used to recommend 24-28' for the KX1.

I had similar problem.
The solution I use is the external TX delay circuit of 30 ms (adjustable)
that utilizes 1 FET transistor, capacitor and couple of resistors. It is
built into connector body and plugs into ACC socket of K3. Now my T/R
relays in the amp are safe.

if you look through the history of the reflector you will find many
recomendations for the Yamaha CM500. I cant say enough about mine.
They arent ear buds but they are light weight and quite comfy
compared to many of the heavier high priced units
They are not expensive about $50
ADDITIONAL INFO: If I open it back up, there is a small pulsing flash,
obviously the alarm/time circuit. If I remove the batteries, the KX3
works normally; if I reinstall them, the problem reoccurs. Alarm is

Igor,
Just what does this delay?
Does it inhibit RF output from the K3 for 30 ms? If so it may chop
parts of CW characters.
The formula T=1200/W gives the dot length for a given WPM (W)
At 40 wpm, one dot is 30 ms.
Does it delay return to RX?

I also received my backordered KXBC3 today and installed it. I did not have

problem turning the unit back on/off again. Sorry, Stan. I can't duplicate

No. You can tune anywhere in the 60M band. It is up to you to be sure you
are transmitting on a valid channel. You can program these into memories
if you wish, but they are not hard-coded.

Hello,
I am curious as to how much of the time you guys have your preamp on?
Mine is on 100% of the time. I actually never had to turn it off.
I couldn't dream of ever using the attenuator…
My K2 seems to hear pretty well, but not without the preamp.
Has anyone heard of changing R76 from 10 Ohms
Depends on the band - although I don't venture far off 40 meters, I used to
have preamp on all the time on 40 until I read that due to noisy 40, the
noise that the preamp amplifies is much harder on the ears than copying a
reasonably strong signal without the preamp. I turned it off a year or two

Gil,
Unless your antennas are very inefficient, I would suggest that the
preamp only does damage to the dynamic range if turned on for the lower
bands (below 20 meters, 30 meters is a toss-up).
Try this test - connect the antenna and listen to band noise (no
signals). Then disconnect the
Thanks Don and Andrew.
Interesting. I definitely hear a big difference in band noise in all three
cases.
So, if the preamp only increases noise and diminishes weak signals reception,
why is it there?

I almost never use a preamp. Sure turning it on increased band noise but
that does not mean I can hear weaker signals.
The best simple test you can do is to disconnect the antenna. If the band
