Jeremy, A high SWR will cause that behavior. Make certain the coax you are using is good. Remove it from the K2 end and check with an antenna analyzer if possible. If you cannot do that, look at the SWR registered on the wattmeter - if it is 1:1, remove the wattmeter and connect that coax to

Mark, My understanding from the manual is that the KAT500 must be on when the K3 is turned on for the Aux connection to work properly. In my shack this is accomplished by connecting the KAT500 directly to the 12 volt buss; that way it is already on when I turn the K3 on. This works well for me.

Turning the KAT and the K3 simultaneously seems to work too. I have one of those rig runners that power up when you turn a rig on. I have it so it powers up when I turn the K3 on and it powers up the Kat at the same time. Seems to be OK but it probably depends on how fast the K3 is booting up.
