Has anyone heard if linking of VFO A/B (as the K3 does) is on a "to do
list":...?
I have not seen anything on this from memory but that has been known to
have let me down once or twice.

Elecraft sells kits. Troubleshooting is part of kit building, always
has been. Heath did some really great things with kits, but didn't
provide the support Elecraft builders get, both from the company and
this list ... but of course, the Internet hadn't been invented then
either. :-)

Hi Gang:
Just a note: Wayne asked you to email him direct... if you want a
copy of beta software to test. He does read the list, but if you want
to try the new release, contact him directly.

I have not previously posted on this thread, but there has been a lot of
good information posted by others.
Let me re-enforce what others have said on this subject. Some excerpts
follow:
- Look for the 'simple' things first.
- Break things down into basics - work into a good dummy load, work w

Well let us hope I learned from the experience!
I just ordered a K2 to build. I'm so grateful for

Wayne, did you mean to say NR or is NB now also ajustable? I wish NB is as
adaptable as it is in K3. I always have to fight ignition noise when
operating from a field. That is where NB similar to K3 would be useful.

Fred,
Been there - done that!
When beginning my career in 2-way repair, an old experienced tech
told me some good advice on troubleshooting: "its usually something
simple", in other words don't be looking at major things to
fail. This is why the first step is to check all the inputs and

Your are pretty much stuck with the factory display. Take a look at what
they do in the r75 group. It is a really neat look. Probably as close to a
led display as you can get. It involves taking a piece of polarizing film
and positioning it over the display until the numbers become clearly in

Hi, Tom!
We tried to make this as smooth as possible, but had one problem with an
older Linux version of the K3 Utility.
We are starting to build K3s with a different LCD driver integrated circuit
(no better function, just a different supplier). The two LCD drivers
require different MCU firmware
Jean,
The LCD on the K2 is a custom design, and could only be changed by
special order, which may cost more than the K2 itself. It is not a
pixel type display.
The LCD backlight might be found in a different color (not available
from Elecraft). The LCD itself is translucent and does not have
For a similar effect you may like the looks of using polarizing film. It
reverses the display colors. Instead of black numbers on a orange
background, it will give you orange numbers on a black background. The
color will depend on the color of your display. Many fine examples and

Hello Jean -
The problem with an LED display is that it takes much more current than
an LCD. When operating portable from batteries the total current is an
important factor. With the LCD display in the K2 there is an option to
turn off the backlight to reduce the current even more.
The early calc
