In addition to Al's helpful post, new owners should understand the difference between Noise Blanker (NB) and Noise Reduction (NR) tools as implemented in Elecraft radios. Recent posts indicate confusions between the two.  They function differently in order to address different sources of noise

Good advice from Chuck and Bob below. The thing to remember is that the noise reduction isn't just an on/off button. There are 32 levels of noise reduction to choose from. Some of the levels add just a touch of NR while others almost destroy the signal, adding artifacts and other things in the

[Elecraft] Design flaw in K3s

2022-11-07 Thread James Michener
It isn't a matter of if your K3s will fail, it is a question of when.   The radio's current sense resistor (SMD 1206) is rated at 1/2 watt,  while (depending on options) will dissipate nearly 2 watts at 10 watt transmit.  It took several years but my resistor drifted from 0.05 ohms up to 0.068

When you change bands and key the K3/KPA1500 do you see a spike in power and then the power out settles down and is fine till you switch bands? Then you have a spike in power on the initial keying? Just wondering N2TK, Tony Sent from my iPhone > On Nov 7, 2022, at 7:54 AM, Kent Trimble wrote:

Pete ... Overshoot was a problem in the early K3s (plural, not S), but was corrected in firmware.  Surely the K3S never had it at all. But apparently so for yours. If you have the latest (i.e. final) firmware installed, a quick phone call to Elecraft support should solve it.  There are just

Does it overdrive only initially after changing bands and then goes to the normal band set output? I do not have a KPA-1500 but I seem to recall seeing something like this with my K3S. John KK9A Pete Smith N4ZR wrote: Just finished SS, and on many occasions when switching bands I found myself

Pete, As Chet mentioned, check the config menu to make sure the setting is still per band. I suggest you run a TX calibration. Then go back to each band and set the K3 power level you want to drive the KPA1500. 73, Mark, WB9CIF -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net

Thanks, Kent - that's what I thought, but it doesn't seem to be working.  I generally use the internal tuner, and I was hopping around a lot within bands, but unfortunately I didn't collect data on which hops produced warnings - either excessive current warnings or over-power readings on the LE
