It isn't a matter of if your K3s will fail, it is a question of when.   The radio's current sense resistor (SMD 1206) is rated at 1/2 watt,  while (depending on options) will dissipate nearly 2 watts at 10 watt transmit.  It took several years but my resistor drifted from 0.05 ohms up to 0.068

Thanks, Kent - that's what I thought, but it doesn't seem to be working.  I generally use the internal tuner, and I was hopping around a lot within bands, but unfortunately I didn't collect data on which hops produced warnings - either excessive current warnings or over-power readings on the LE
