The red cable on the foot switch is for keying an amplifier and plugs into the
amps PTT or relay. This allows the foot switch to key the amp ahead of the K3
on transmit. Keeps you from talking into a dead amp.

Only occasionally, I notice that when I end a transmission my K3 receive seems
almost muted. It recovers to normal sensitivity very quickly. I so far see no
pattern to the effect that might suggest a cause.

with the order may solve the problem, it's worth a try.
I found that the how I added the devices, the order apparently made a
difference. Try a fresh start the computer on, next turn on the radio and
finally the SteppI
Exactly what I needed to know. I do plan to add the P3.

I have a Pro-Set mic that came with the purchase of a used K3, s/n #3012 for
reference. The mic seems to be nearly dead and I wanted to make sure that I am
not doing something wrong before sending it to Heil for testing and repair.
Even with the gain full up and the mic right next to my mouth
Clipped pin 7 wire and all is well. Both DX Lab's radio controller module and
the logging module are listening to the K3.
