, and I mitigated the
effect by turning off the preamp.
If this topic's been covered before, I don't recall reading about it and
would appreciate suggestions for the
future.

Please help
I am having an unexpected response from my KX3 and wonder if it portends
some failure: in CW mode, when I hold the CMP/PITCH button down I hear the
tone, the display briefly reads 500 Hz, then displays
HIGH CUR...this doesn't seem right.
Comments, inspiration, whatever?

...can't use the
serial port to key the KX3 in similar fashion!).
Other'n that, it's both fun and a challenge to operate QRP in a contest
using a KX3. Thanks, Elecraft!

Ken,
Try driving your SB-200 with just 10-Watts output from your FT-897D. RF is
rf, no matter the source
for such purposes! It would help if you had an accurate Wattmeter to see
the results! I think you'll be
pleasantly surprised.

In a message dated 2/7/2013 11:56:53 A.M
and found that it was set to CW mode.
This is happening with the N1MM configuration set to SO1V...
So the KX3 seems to be doing its thing okay; the problem appears in how
all that information coming
down the USB cable from the rig is being handled by the software.
73,
Bert, N4CW
the error message is displayed. If I change the mode to AFSK-A, or any
mode other than PSK-D, the error message goes away.
Now you'd think that while I was in SSB/USB mode, that the PSK-D setting
information wouldn't be sent to
N1MM...
Am I doing something wrong?
Bert, N4CW
, down,
down to 14.something when I let up on the hand key. I kept the key down
just 15 or 20 seconds,
not wanting to tempt fate!!! Power output stayed at 100W throught the
procedure. H
I'm satisfied with those readings: everything works just fine!
Bert, N4CW
into
the shack to find the KX3 on...
I thought I'd forgotten to shut it off. Just in case, I checked to see if
the Alarm was set on in the KX3. It
wasn't. Darn if the KX3 didn't turn itself on tonight too!
So what did I miss? I think I read all the instructions...more than once.
Bert, N4CW
Watts...fine! Now, if I turn
off the KX3, plug in the 13.8 Volt source back into the KX3, and then
power on, output is still at 5 Watts. I have to readjust PWR to 10 Watts to
get
10 Watts out.
Is that the way it's supposed to work, or am I missing a setting somewhere?
Bert, N4CW/K1IMI
of the K3 runs just
fine!

times the power of my KPA500!
Now that should open up some speculation :~)

So, is the K3 serial port supposed to crap out when the rig's voltage
supply isn't optimum?

in an earlier posting I noted that at 150W
output (in BPSK31), the amp was very inefficient and the fan was pretty loud.
If
I can't derate the output and I can't run full output, what do I do with
the KPA500 in the digital modes?

Of course I understand about the fuses and properly setting the fuse
assembly to reflect the input voltage!
Any caveats from anybody who has already done this?

Since I got my K3, I don't use the XV-50 anymore, so it's up for sale. Has
optional crystal oven installed.
Asking $250 for it and will split shipping (Fed Ex ground). Contact me
