Hello all,
I recently modified my KX1 or should I say my pimped-out KX1.
I bought six AA-size Li-ion 3.7V/750mah batteries. I installed them into
each battery holder, but wired the two battery holders in parallel
instead of in series. I now have a 1.5AH internal battery in my KX1. To
ensure all
Greetings. I recently finished my K2 KPA100 kit. It seemed to work okay
initially, then last night started to exhibit some strange behavior. It
would transmit correct power on tune under 11 watts (and show low SWR), but
on anything over 11 watts, on tune, it would transmit around 165 watts and
Hi Colin
Absolutly normpal , I would say, I have to do that about two three time a

Dave,
I've seen one contest that suggested that you do add
/QRP to you call, if operating QRP. No mention of the
legality of it, or that one show know one's licensing
authorities rules.
The only advantage I can see is if QRP stations are
worth bonus points. There are a few contests that

Don,
I am not at home right now to look at K2, but will try and answer your
questions to provide additional information.
I am not sure what the K2 was displaying in terms of watts out (I
think it was a low number), but I confirmed the output at 165w using
two external wattmeters (first the
Dave,
Do you know if that presentation is available online?
I would like to read/hear it.

Mike,
If you are certain you had the red toroid cores (not any blue ones) then
you have the older KPA100 T/R switch design - it must have been shipped
before mid-Nov 2006. You do not have to check C31 with the red toroid
KPA100.
Do check to see if the KPA100 is displaying low power - you
I suspect that Eric and Wayne are not making 25,000
times the salary of any of the Elecraft employees. I
would also assume that they do not have golden

They may have an offshore account on NA-065
The Elecraft support guy, Gary, is excellent. I had the same concerns, and a
couple
of times I had a sinking feeling that maybe I'd never get it right, but Gary
bailed me
out over the web with close-up pictures of problem areas, and I now have a fine
little
radio that I built from a kit.

It is much better to sign QRP after they give you a decent RST, it really
annoys them!!
It sort of makes the 229 no cpy you get after that a little shallow in
meaning.

Hello again!
I have a requirement that my rigs have relatively high audio output wo/
distortion from the headphone jack. I have a moderate hearing loss, about 45
db down especially in the speech region. The audiologists calls that

hello all,
Well, I hit my first snag with k2 # 5723.
On page 61 of the manual in the vco alignment, I measured the
voltage of r30 first out at 2.33. that was with the tuning slug, L30 turned
all the way in. turning the slug out the voltage changed to 2.44.
Hi all,
I have finally cracked! Ordered the base K3, tuner and FM filter.
A question. I ordered the FM filter, which on the online order form
says 8 pole. However, on the receipt it says 5 pole. Which is it
please and why?

Signing /QRP can be viewed as please take pitty on me thing.
Hi Ken,
Yes it can, but... I like to hear a guy sign qrp, especially these
days, with poor propagation because... if I hear a fairly weak signal,
and I'm thinking, he's probably running a hundred watts, I won't
bother calling,
Ian - congratulations on managing to hold out for so long - this is probably
some sort of a record. I only managed to last 24 hours :-)
I see big fights at your QTH to decide who gets to play with the K3, let us
know who wins please.

Ian,
Sorry for the discrepancy and thanks for bringing to Elecraft's attention.
Neither case is correct. The FM filter is actually a 7-pole filter. This is
correct on the pdf printable order form. It will be corrected online and for
the
receipts.

I belong to a few other lists. One notable list is the Yaesu FT100/D group.
If you have never visited, they are a Yahoo group list. I have an FT100 and
its a terrific rig in many ways. In Some ways it is similar to the K2 size
power, etc but in no way resembles the K2 as a receiving tool.
What size Pelican case do folks use for the KX-1?? I seem to remember it is
the 1060, but its internal height is barely more than the KX-1 itself. Does
this provide enough clearance to protect the tuning knob? For people using
this case - do you put any foam beneath the KX-1, or just let it

Yes, there's a web site out there with pix of the 1060, but I chose to
go with the 1120. It's a small version of their larger cases, without a
clear body. Plenty of room for extras,
