Hi
I will pretty soon start to solder my K2 and wondering if an oscilloscope
would be handy to have.
What should I take in consideration choosing one: 50-100-200 MHz modell or
is that relevant?
Whast is must for rf- measurements?
It's been now nearly 30 years since I've touched a scope.
Ben,
I have one, a used100 MHz portable Tektronix. I didn't use it or
need it on the K2 at all, but needed it when I was setting up my
SDR-1000. A TeK 475 is a good scope. I used one at work, and they
are available for a reasonable price.

Presumably you know the dielectric constant of that insulation,

I have previously assumed that any wire insulated or not, in space, has
the same velocity
A good scope is a handy thing to have, but you don't need one to build a
K2. Look for a used Tektronix scope if you get one. 100mHz or more, dual
trace, delayed sweep. A 465 /475 series is small and portable... or a
7000 series mainframe with plugins gives you more flexibility, is easier

I have wasted many hours trying to work them. The pileups are
horrendous.
The lids are out in tremendous force. I have been trying at 100W because of
the horrible operating discipline being shown, including profanity et al. I
would suggest you wait until next week when a lot of the
The K2 has been sold. Thanks for your responses.

For general all around radio that does HF and VHF/UHF, the 817 is

The problems with the FT-817 as an all-round modest performance rig are

Hi All, would anyone have for sale one of Pauli's interface boards built
unbuilt for sale? will elecraft take over and sell this as a kitted up option?
it would be a shame to lose such a nice unit now we've lost Pauli, regards John

Also wanted to add to this that I am using the beta version of Ham radio
Deluxe. It has this function built in and you can click on the signal peaks
and the K2 will change to that spot on the band. I applaud your efforts for
writing this. Makes search and pounce much easier. The HRD is not bug
I have just finished a fully loaded K2 for a friend. I would like to have a

ability or desire to build your K?? then just let me know and we can
I agree 1000%. It is not worth the effort right now to put up with all of
the LIDS!! that are trying to work them.

The FT-817 was designed for the Japanese fourth class license ham market and
was only incidentally offered to the US market. Perhaps someday the
tremendous design flaws of the FT-817 novelty radio will be corrected in a
properly designed rig. In any event, I don't see the FT-817 as any kind

I have an FT-817 and a few K2s. I like both rigs so comparing them is
futile since the FT-817 is a DC to daylight rig where the K2 is not unless
you add the transverters.
I installed the DSP board from BHI and it made a tremedous difference. It
really works great yet a CW filter is still

So far I have not even heard an actual K7C signal here in Maine. However, I
have occasionally heard the pileups.
I agree with you that if you have to put up with too many lids, then the
contact is not worth the trouble doing. There have been occasions in the
past where I have simply

Good Evening,
The band was not conducive to many contacts this evening. Ron, AC7AC,

I just read the Aerials article by Krusty Kurt in the October issue of World

of running parallel coax through the wall to connect ladder line to the
antenna tuner. His method ties the shields together at both ends to get

I've been using N3FJP software for both general logging and
contesting. I originally got it because it was the only
software I could find that supported the Fists Sprint, and
now I'm quite used to it. It has some quirks, but what
software doesn't?

The output of a conventional tuner is not balanced and is intended to be

so connected. However, the balanced feedline will not be balanced when
