[Elecraft] voltages

2006-07-21 Thread Earl
Hello. In checking voltages in my K2, I find that the voltages on U8 pins 10 11 are reversed. Therefore the U7 pins 5 6 are reversed. I get 5 v where I should see 0 v. Also on pin 24 U6 i measure 0volt unless I have the CAL FCTR mode activated. I think I had this problem once before but

RE: [Elecraft] voltages

2006-07-21 Thread Don Wilhelm
Earl, I assume (sometimes a bad thing) that you are referring to U6, U76 and U8 on the Control Board - you did not state which board, but the RF Board U8 is a voltage regulator and has only 3 pins! This is a case of observing digital signals and the level depends on just how the K2 menu is set

[Elecraft] KPA power fluctuations

I think I have to some calibration because I only get 85w out on the kpa-100. No worries. I read this is easily fixed. However I notice my power output fluctuations between 17 and 22 watts with the tune button. It clearly goes up and down in a tick-tock fashion. Can anyone exlain why this

PRICE REDUCED AGAIN! This is as low as it gets! If it doesn't move this time, I'll try other venues. I've decided that I want to explore the possibilities of Software Defined Radio. In order to do that I must sell one of my K2s. This is a serial 37xx vintage K2 and has been upgraded to the

RE: [Elecraft] KPA power fluctuations

2006-07-21 Thread Don Wilhelm
David, This question comes up from time to time, so let me attempt a long explaination for general information of those interested. The power control for the K2 is speced at 10%, and you are seeing a +2 watt and -2 watt variation at the 20 watt level, so it does fall within spec limits. The

I still think there are some oddities (firmware bug?) in the K2 ALC algorithm. I still haven't figured out why I sometimes get 170W out on 160m. Torsten N4OGW ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to

RE: RE: [Elecraft] KPA power fluctuations

2006-07-21 Thread Don Wilhelm
Thorsten, If I recall your original description, that high power glitch is a result of the 'attack time' delay in the power control circuits. Yes, I do believe there is a firmware oversight - the power leveling controls must change (to compensate for the gain variations) when switching from band

[Elecraft] K2 5649: High transmit current, odd voltages

2006-07-21 Thread Michael Cook
Hi all. I just did the transmit testing for 40m in the third testing stage on the RF board this morning. However, I ran into some odd things. At 5 watts, the K2's meter reads 6 watts and the current used is about 0.06 amps high. That didn't seem too bad (something to look into) so I kept

John, The VCO frequency of 8903 kHz is not correct for the 40 meter band. I would be willing to wager that you have installed the 'Rework Eliminators' which includes the changes to the RF Board for the K60XV. The K2 manual clearly states that one should NOT install the K60XV components until
