Hello
Could someone tell me if there is a Hakko retailer in Europe, except in the
UK ( as the one in England doesn't sell outside this country ! ). I did not
find anyone in France, Germany, Italy etc...

Hi Todd,
3.
I also have discovered that toroid L18 on the KBPF3 had a lead
broken during shipment. It seems I've heard of this happening
before to someone else. Can a turn on the toroid be sacrificed to
allow enough length of the lead to solder it back in the board?
I highly doubt
I often toss my KX-1 in a bag and would like to
develop some sort of cover to protect the controls.
Is there something like that out there?

I use a small nylon camera case from Target. It has a handy outer pocket
that I put the paddle, headphones and a BNC-to-terminal
My K3/100 #695 was:
- Ordered on October 16, 1007
- Announced by Katiegram on April 8, 2008, with invoice 50974
- Shipped via UPS on April 11
- Delivered at my door on April 15 after a first visit of the brown
truck on April 14 (wow, that UPS shipment costs, but rocks !)
- Mounted yesterday
Laurent, I assume it was a kit, oui? Yours shipped much sooner after
the Katiegram than mine did. Mine is factory assembled which I think
added a couple of weeks to my ship time.

- K2 5411.ssb.100 -

I shared on here some time ago how I made a cover using one of those $10

Hello
Has anyone ever felt the need to ground their K2, and if so, where did you
connect the ground wire to the K2?
Thanks

It's very easy to put a small bolt in the hole on the back panel. That's what
I did and I don't have the antenna tuner. Like someone else said, it good
practice to ground it.

That's true, but all you need to do is get a matching 6-32 screw to fit
the K2's threaded hole for the ground post.

No. Grounding a rig is a waste of time and actually endangers it. I unhook
the antenna when not in use.
If you can't resist having a ground wire, put a knife switch in series
with it so you can disconnect it when not in use. Hooking your rig to a
ground rod separate from your house electrical
Scott,
There is no real need to ground the K2 itself. Ground the antenna
feedline shield for a better installation. The K2 would be grounded
through that coax connection.
I could go on and on about grounding, but in a nutshell, there are 3
types of grounds to consider:
1) AC Safety Ground
Scott:
If you do not have noticeable RF on the chassis, as you should not
have if you are using a dipole with low swr, the ground connection
does not do much for you. If you're running a random wire or Windom,
you might have RF getting back into the shack and some of it might
find its way
Okay. But, I believe there are other reasons to ground your rig other than
lightning strikes. I certainly don't leave my antenna connected to any of my
rigs, grounded or not.

A while back, I had a problem where sometimes my K3 would shut down and
immediately power back on when I would attempt to touch the main vfo knob. I
had installed the encoder properly by inserting a star type of washer on both
sides of the front panel to provide a good ground. However, I

Thanks for that one, Fern. I have the same problem with static

If I remember correctly, the base K2 came without the ground screw.
Its been a long time. I think the ground screw came with the ATU.
The K1 doesn't have a ground screw, even with the ATU. I am confused
about the use of an RF ground with a balanced antenna. One of the

Hi fellow QRPers,
Today I was testing out my Black Widow Vertical before I hit the
Appalachian Trail next weekend. I threw the coil up at four feet using
25lb test fishing line and hooked up the radiator and six radials. It

Rick (long answer),
You are most likely mixing RF ground with a 'Mother Earth' ground. They
are quite different. The main reason is that RF does not behave like
low frequency AC or DC. You are not alone - that fact seems to mystify
and confuse many, many hams. I will try to give a

I found the problem. The -S was showing on the display for sync AM, which

Eventually, the plan is to have a synchronous AM detector in the K3. It
is behind a number of other tasks on the list, but it is on the list.

The -s showing when on SSB or data modes is for faster turn around in
ARQ modes, i.e. Amtor and Pactor. It currently shows N/A when you try
