Hello there
With no Antenna connected and all parameters the same for Main and Sub VFO, my sub receiver produces only about 50% audio compare to my main receiver.
This results that i have to set my sub audio knob to the 4 oclock position to recieve equal audio in left and main headphone..

Hi, since March last year my K2/100/KAT100 was working very good, but in last
December I was tuning an antenna when suddenly it shut down and I could not
repower it again. (I guess I was selecting the wrong antenna) After that, one
of the PA transistors was damaged and I replaced

Before you go into any troubleshooting of the power control circuits,
try this ---
Since you have the PA transistors out already, go into TUNE and measure
the DC voltage at the solder pads for the base of Q7 and Q8. If it is

Dear group,
Not sure if I'm doing something wrong here, but I set SQ MAIN=SUB POT. As I
understand it, with this setting the main receiver and sub receiver squelch
is now controlled by the RF/SQL SUB pot. Squelch works fine when using the
main receiver, and I can see the squelch setting on
BTW, I forgot to add that the squelch only seems to work in FM mode. Is this
the case? Also, when using the sub receiver in FM mode, even if I adjust
squelch to the maximum, it will not go to full quieting.
I'm confused now.

OK, nevermind... turns out that the sub receiver was not in FM mode, hence
the reason squelch wasn't being adjusted.
I've also read on the reflector that squelch is only applicable to FM modes.
I hope that squelch will also be incorporated into other modes as well.

The 1 switch on the number pad switches from vfo a to b.
Could the switch tone function be changed such that it gives an indication
of which vfo? i.e. low tone for A, and High for B?
This would be very helpful for setting splits.

Either check the menu or easier yet, use K3 Utility to check the filters
that are enabled for transmit for each mode. You should only have the
2.7 kHz filter selected for transmit in CW and SSB modes.
You may add the 250 kHz filter for receive - but not for transmit.

Dear group,
Someone please explain to me what's happening with my K3. I have both main
receiver and sub receiver linked. This way, I can tune the sub receiver
with the main VFO knob. However, there's something weird going on when I
cross some sort of band edge.

Most stations were S5/6, but there were a few up to S9. There were also
some near the noise level, and there was also a lot of QSB. The surprise

What rev of firmware are you using? I went through test on all of

Hi Matt,
The zipper or motorboat noise occurs when tuning around 4.9-5.5 MHz or
4900-5500 KHz. It is most noticeable when the sub receiver is turned on,
the sub volume is up, and tuning steps are set to fine. The noise ONLY
occurs when I turn a VFO knob or filter knob. If I do not touch any

James,
I, too, have noticed what I believe you are noticing. It seems to me
that the jumps in the tracking of VFO A and VFO B occur at the
transitions of the bandpass filters. It is as if when the bandpass
relays switch, the VFOs lose their synchronization. (Of course, I
could be wrong,
I had a great time with my K3 during the ARRL DX contest. I do SP and I was

At 50Hz width it was quite clear that many stations call off frequency.
Using RIT, I could see that it was

This is more than likely due to dirty signals on the TX end. I was
using a QS1R connected to the K3 IF and measured the width of some of
the strong signals. Some were as wide as 2.6 kHz Not very good
for a CW signal. In this case there is just not much you can do.

It seems that soundcard based AFCW has become popular with some
contesters, for reasons which elude me. There is great opportunity to
transmit wide, distorted cw signals if things are poorly adjusted.

Hi Bill,
Tried your experiment, and my main VFO jumped to 5.069.029 while the sub VFO

Mike,
The K3 is virtually desense-proof, with a BDR of ~140 dB. But to take
advantage of this, you need a narrow crystal filter -- the closer to
the DSP bandwidth the better. This is exactly the situation that we had
in mind when we designed the 200-Hz 5-pole filter. For CW pileups, you

I think what they are seeing is this: Strong signals that fall slightly
outside the DSP's audio passband are still pumping the S-meter and the AGC
is desensing the receiver. The DSP is acting more like and audio filter than
an IF DSP. In other words, the DSP's audio bandpass is very steep but

Try going into the Config and setting your AGC THR down to 003 and see if that
improves. I had mine too high at one time and it caused stronger stations to
distort.

I'll discuss this with Lyle, KK7P (our DSP engineer). I don't think
this has anything to do with desensing if a narrow filter is being
