7P8US will be on the air for the next 3 days (at least) using a barefoot
KX3 but he's traded in the PAR EndFEDZ at sea level for a 6 element log
periodic and his elevation is now around 2000 meters. He will begin ops
each day at 1800 UTC on 14031. If there's a pileup he'll listen up 1-2.

Problem solved--old manual without the notation for bnd map of band

I sure hope not. If your worried about someone accessing you radio, put a

I'm not, because I want Elecraft to remain a profitable business. They

Your questions are valid. I asked the same ones myself. I'm also disappointed

During charge at 200mA, the NiMH batteries can typically reach 1.5V
each, for 12V total. Add in the extra voltage for path resistance,
isolation diode, and charging regulator overhead, you get up over 13.5V,
which is why the recommended voltage is 13.8V. Charging at lower supply
voltages
I can think of one reason to avoid charging every time external power is
applied -- external batteries. If you are running from 14V LiFePo batteries on
the trail, you don't want to charge the internal NiMH batteries at the same
time.

Received my KPA 500 and KAT 500 today, 2 weeks to get to the UK via USPS, great
service, took a half hour to interface with my K3, what a great seamless

buying direct rather than the local importer.

Smart chargers for Nimh rely on the cell to show a certain percentage of
voltage drop when full charge is attained - around 10 mV per cell. This
occurs most reliably at fairly high charge currents. With 8 cells in
series, that voltage drop can easily be masked by what is happening in
other cells,
Hi All,
Just to close the loop, a note to say that I found the cause of this
intermittent issue: I removed the adapter cable between the PC and the KPA500
and the issue has not recurred after many hours of use. I suspect it related to
some RF getting in to the control circuits of the amp via
Good statement, Chip. Right on the mark.
For quite a while now (since inception?), Elecraft's design philosophy has been
to make their products bulletproof. That's not the same as being perfect,
but there is also heavy emphasis on best value per dollar spent. This is a
close approximation

Is there any reasons why I shouldn't sit the KPA500 on top of the KAT 500 ATU?

No. That's exactly what I do. Looks good, works great. The KAT was
designed intentionally with heavier sheet metal than necessary for its own
structural integrity in order to support the weight of a KPA500. Go for it.

Do you want to keep your kids (and their friends) from messing with it?
Your own kids should know better and also,

Usually the KDSP default filter widths work fine, I would suggest that
you leave CW AFIL1 set for LoPass and normally use the IF filters for

Bob,
Do you have 50 MHz mapped out in the K3 band mapping? If not, you can
become confused between the K3 normal 50 MHz band and the TRN1 band for
your XV50. On the surface, it sounds like you are attempting to operate
on the base K3 50 MHz band. If that is the case, your XV50 will not

I am among those not thrilled with the KXBC3. A few simple changes could
improve it, however: 1) A top-off or balancing mode where the charger would
charge at a 50ma rate, with a charge time up to 24 hrs at that rate. 2. More
full-current charge times available. Why not allow 1-16 hrs in
