Bingo!
That was it. I cranked the PC and app levels way down to like 30 percent,
dropped the mic gain to zero, and then started slowly increasing the mic gain
and then got ALC bars somewhere around the 15 to 20 level.
I guess in all my playing around with this, I must never have had the

When the input signal is too high no ALC is shown in data mode. Reduce the
input to a minimum and gradually increase the KX3 gain and the ALC will appear.
You would think that high input would show max ALC bars but that is not how it
works. Same problem took me several hours to troubleshoot
So I have been researching this most of the afternoon to no avail. I have a KX3
that when in Data A mode, does not indicate ALC on the ALC display.
I am using WSJT-X to generate an audio signal from the PC. When I do so, I can
see that the KX3 is putting out RF, and in fact I can make

What control do you need? Do you want to run your station remotely, or
only from the shack? In addition to the software others have mentioned,
virtually all contest loggers provide the controls needed for
Aaron,
I cannot give you a specific answer, but go by the heat.
I would suggest you first try 5 watts, and operate at that level for a
while (I suggest 10 minutes).
Then check the heatsink temperature - if you can hold your fingers on it
for longer than 5 minutes, then all is well.

think I have been using it for close to ten years and have never wished for
anything else.

The KPA and KAT do Mars without any changes. There is one Mars frequency that
may be problematic on the KPA500, but I understand it is not used all that much.

Contact Elecraft directly and send a copy of your MARS license. I did MARS
for several years and never had a problem getting the mod apps for Elecraft
gear. They even used my feedback on the frequency ranges to ensure that the
radios were usable on the necessary frequencies.

What is the recommended highest power level for a QRP Elecraft K2 to
operate on digital modes like FT8, JT65 etc, without blowing the PA's?
