David,
True but IIRC I was replying to a message where he said the SWR was flat
through 6m. Usually, somewhere between 20m and 6m, receive losses do count.

Your situation sounds like 1) something is heating up and changing value
or 2) something is arcing and changing value. Are you using a balun or
choke that is underrated?

Why is the amplifier connected? 30m is a restricted powerband.

came with frequencies programmed in it. Amazon was not happy and
immediately issued a refund.

Not just the tuner, the K3 is not rated for full power on 100% duty cycle
modes. Just like it's not rated or 100% key down CW. But realize that
many of the modes are half transmit and half listen.
Different digital modes have different duty cycles.
From the W1HKJ.com website:

I have had that problem in the past. Have you tried a 'reset

Solutions have to be practical. Quitting the hobby is the only practical
solution I see.

I tried the toggle switch to switch mic/headset between two rigs. Too much
hum pickup on the mic. Gave up,and went to two headsets. YMMV

What is the setting for 10m in the KAT500 utility? The behavior you see
is consistent with 10m being set for ANT2.
Hopefully it is that simple! GL

FWIW, my wife had very good results from Paypal. She bought a saddle
online and paid with paypal. When it arrived, it did not match the
description or photos. The seller ignored her protests so she contacted
PP. She reasonably quickly got a human, explained the situation and sent
pictures.
Something arcing over on voice peaks would do what you describe. Are
there any weak insulators or spots where something might arc?

A mic, what's that? LOL
When I have operated phone, I either use my old Shure 444, or, for a
headset/boom mic, a Koss SB-45 (comfortable and $50). I receive great
audio reports from either of them.

Yes, a resonant half wave dipole can have a feedpoint impedance of 5 ohms
to 90 ohms (SWR 10:1 to 1.8:1), but it's still resonant.
Conversely, a non-resonant antenna can have a 1:1 SWR.

The difference between a "dry" and an "air cooled"? I think they are the
same. The difference is with "oil cooled". Heathkit used to sell a
"Cantenna" which was a dummy load in a gallon paint can. Add your own
transformer oil. IIRC it was rated for a KW
