I have the same setup Ed (KPA1500/LPA-100A). I've always seen a difference,
and never really paid much attention to it. When I read your email I ran
some very quick and dirty tests, here's what I'm seeing:

80M: LPA -- 1322, KPA1500 -- 1513
40M: LPA -- 1325, KPA1500 -- 1504
 6M: LPA -- 1345, KPA1500 -- 1550

Pretty consistent with your 6M readings. Are you seeing much closer numbers
than mine?

I use a StationProII, which unfortunately is no longer in production, but
there's a decent resale market for them.

http://www.w8zr.net/stationpro/

I currently have 2 amps and 2 radios, but have had more at one time or
another. The SPII allows me to swap in any radio and amp combination I want,
and it transfers control lines so you don't have the issue you mentioned.
When I had my K3S connected to my KPA1500 via the Elecraft control
connections, I could use another radio without any issues.

Re: [Elecraft] KPA1500 DC Connector Failure

2020-12-23 Thread Lou W0FK
Almost every APP failure I’ve had occurred when the connector slips back into
the housing a bit and doesn’t clip over the internal metal connector in the
housing. Make sure the connector laps over that piece.

The 75 amp PP connectors do slip easily from the amp, as was earlier noted
make sure you hear or feel 2 clicks and is solidly attached.

Re: [Elecraft] Fw: Re: FT8 - was "On Second Thought, I'll Take The Stairs"

2020-07-13 Thread Lou W0FK
I've used both Teamviewer and TightVNC, using my laptop to log onto my main
PC. I prefer Teamviewer because the screen real estate is larger, and I can
easily switch between my 2 monitors on the PC I log into. I've not used it
off my house's network.

The only issue I've found is that I need to make sure I don't play with the
audio settings on the laptop after I've logged in, as it also affects the
audio settings on the main PC. I mute the laptop audio first and then log
on. Otherwise, I have to open the sound control (Windows 10) and change the
speaker setting to get reset transmit drive levels.

Also remember to set a personal password under options and allow "easy
access" to your main PC. Otherwise you'll need to enter the main PC's
randomly generated password, which is kinda hard if you're not in front of
it.

Re: [Elecraft] Future of KPA500 & KAT500

I doubt Elecraft wold spend money to re-engineer the KPA500/KAT500, invest in
new boards, cabinetry, manuals, production/assembly changes, etc. The pair
works well as is, and costs zero R or production dollars to continue them
as they are.

Besides, they'll fit the new K5 profile when it comes out. ;-)

Re: [Elecraft] NOT the feedline (was KPA-1500 faulting on 6m; SWR issues)

2020-05-31 Thread Lou W0FK
What are the error codes when you hard fault? Check them and see if there’s
any consistency.

I sometimes get hard faults when I’ve moved my rf deck, simply because the
PowerPoles on the 12v line from the power supply have moved a bit and aren’t
making a good connection. I usually see a 50v warning pop up that alerts me
to the issue. Have you made sure that 12v line is secured?

I also concur that 90 watts Drive into the amp is way too much. That
suggests the amp is the culprit. The innovantenna balun is pretty robust.
But if you suspect it, bypass it and test a direct line with pigtailed ends
directly into the loop.

Re: [Elecraft] KPA-1500 faulting on 6m; SWR issues

2020-05-31 Thread Lou W0FK
Peter, how old is your amp? I have s/n 153, and had a similar issue on 6. One
of the torroids in, I believe, the low pass filter, ultimately burned out.
Smoke smells from your amp are not pleasant. The factory determined that the
torrid was delivered out of spec, and it was replaced. I suggest you get
with support and let them trouble shoot the issue. It may be something
completely different, but could still be problematic.

The "official" SteppIR cable schematic also shows that Pin 3 (TXD out on the
K3S's RD232 DE9) is also to be connected.

Is that connection needed? If it is connected, might it obviate the need for
a separate CAT program?
