I was one of the early users of the CQ-Contest reflector, back in the
90s, and it was a long time before I became aware that hams were the
only ones who referred to these things as reflectors rather than
m,ailing lists or listservs. It also used to be that anyone posting

Pete, I'll see your curmudgeon-ness and raise you a couple of gadflies.
That appears to be a fad; folks who have no desire to be identified or help,
just to stir pots, make waves, and think it's funny. The list manager here is
working the issue, I know from his posts.

Or
Pete - Even though you're older than me, I can one-up you by saying I used
the Internet (Usenet) in the mid-70s while in college and well as from home
in the 80s with a UUCP emulator on my Commodore 64 :.)
Yes, I do prefer postings with name/callsign. I believe it should be a list
requirement,
Pete,
I think the answer is simple - just do not respond to posts where the
sender does not want to identify himself. I *might* try one response if
it looks like a sincere request for help from someone, but I will ask
that they identity (firstname and callsign) on any subsequent posts.

Not at all, It is just plain courtesy to end your post with name and
call sign on our amateur reflectors. It is beyond me as to why one
would do otherwise.

Pete,
I don't think this is curmudgeonly at all. I try to sign off with 73 on
internet forum
postings (such as on eHam), as well on e-mail lists like this one.
I figure if I can't say 73, meaning, of course best regards, then
perhaps I
shouldn't send it.Keeps me in check!

1). It's a rule on this reflector. Those who don't know that, haven't read the
periodic posting of the rules.
2) Your email address doesn't show up in the body of the message. Well maybe if
you
have a sig line.
3) It's a courtesy us old fogeys really really like.

As per the list guidelines, its perfectly OK to have your name and call
(if you have a call) show up just in the email from: address. This
shows on all emails resent by the list server.
Let's end discussion on this topic as per my last posting ending the thread.

:-) (or should I say, Hi-Hi?).
I use 73 in e-mails too, but I use it like I use it on the air - as part of
a final salutation. When I expect to see more on the subject directed to me,
I don't us it just as I don't use it to end every transmission on the air.
